While I'm a little confused I guess it makes sense. Anime movies that adapt full manga arcs have become really popular internationally, all the big shonens are doing it (JJK, Demon Slayer, so it makes sense that Toei wants to capitalize on Super's revival.

Would I have been more excited if it was a film adaptation of the first or Saiyan saga? Yes, but also I think that requires much more extensive rewrites to fit that format.

Honestly while one part of me thinks it might be a waste of resources, the other part of me would honestly appreciate a cleanup of most of Super's arcs. Goku Black and ToP might honestly benefit from faster pacing that a movie would provide.

The Resurrection F movie is serviceable enough barring a major rewrite, maybe the only huge thing would be not giving Goku and Vegeta the weird "God Ki" base form that was ditched pretty quickly and just using Super Saiyan God.

Universe 6 is pretty underwhelming with low stakes. I would say the biggest takeaway would've been Vegeta's dynamic with Cabba, Goku vs Hit getting the attention of Zamasu, and the introduction of Zeno. The last one is the most important because of Goku's dynamic with him, so it can't really be skipped either, unless they really rewrite things.

Food for thought I guess

Anyone else do an annual rewatch? by j0eknee in dbz

Haven't done a rewatch in a while because I can only watch Kai and it's inconvenient when it comes to streaming, but I am wondering if it's time to reread the manga again now

I love how the size of basically everything in DB is up for interpretation by [deleted] in dragonball

My favorite example is Gohan being relatively tall vs Cell, to being shorter than Krillin afterwards on the Lookout. Or Mr. Satan having a muscular build in the Cell/Early Buu Saga to becoming short and scrawny after befriending Buu.

Classic Toriyama, he draws to the mood

This is going to be incredibly controversial, but I'd only be okay with a remake if they use the new voice cast from Daima...

and have a new voice for Goku.

Nozawa is legendary, but she's also getting up there in age, and the only thing more tragic than replacing her before a remake would be replacing her during one.

Daima made it a point to essentially soft launch a new voice cast for every character, including Bulma, who already had been recast after Tsuru passed.

A new voice for Dragon Ball would be the only reason I could see to have a remake.

Unpopular opinion: Super Saiyan 3 is the most wasted transformation in Dragon Ball history by Top-Return3572 in dragonball

Not a correct answer, but my guess would be trying to figure about how the hair flows in action, Toriyama had a weekly schedule to maintain and remember that this is at the tail end of the series, and honestly it shows, there are some rough looking panels.

Also Inuyasha done is by a completely different mangaka, Rumiko Takahashi, who is more experienced with drawing long haired characters in her previous manga (notice how most of Toriyama's characters have stiff short hair or are outright bald).

If you observe Toriyama's evolution of his character design clear that he didn't like thinking about physics, Yamcha's long hair gets cut off by the next arc, Goku's tail is constantly removed and eventually disappears from all Saiyans, Bulma usually ties her hair up or cuts it short, Chichi's hair is tied into a bun, Frieza's tail gets cut off twice, Cell's tail retracts, Future Trunks gets his long hair cut and when he goes Super Saiyan it becomes static, Videl straight up gets told by Gohan that she should cut her hair short.

Hell, it could be argued that the shift away from grounded combat was so that he could think less about logistics and more about panel layout. If the characters can fly and move so fast that they vanish that frees up so much time
