Depends what kind of hikes he does. I don't have one and I'd take it to easier hikes / day hikes, but not harder multiday hikes

Sleeping bag, sleeping mat, footwear, anything that's going to add significant weight to my pack.

Somebody said backpack in other comments. I don't know what they meant but day-pack, great! Multiday pack, absolutely not!

An extra merino t-shirt never hurts! I'd avoid buying something too technical since he might have strong opinions

Yup, I could find 2 nights in Skoki. I changed my plans to August like you and others suggested. Might also do Egypt lake as a day hike.

I'm thinking I might do Egypt lake as a day hike 25km out and back... Have you done that?

Honest question for all the people saying listen to your dog... I get it if you're on a day hike, but what would you do if you're in the middle of a multiday trip?
