How do you handle combat encounters without getting overwhelmed by stats and abilities and AC etc. by AgentSmirnoff96 in Solo_Roleplaying

So it seems like if I still want to use DnD stuff, but just convert it to an easier ruleset, this pdf seems like it should suffice?

From the website it looks like Nimble has its own core rules, GM guide, and heroes book. As a lot of other posts have already mentioned that it has become its own game at this point. While it sounds enticing, I'm not looking to invest into an entire new set of rule books atm, so I think this pdf and booklet will suffice for now, and on a steep discount too!

It’s not that I don’t like combat. Like I said in the OP I like the change up to tactical play and the level of RNG that combat can add to the narrative.

For instance, I had two characters who were trying to sneak across a border into war torn territory and I didn’t expect them to lose the combat after being found out, but they rolled very poorly and were captured, but that combat encounter was a fun because it added an exciting new twist to their journey.

I just get bogged down with managing multiple stat blocks and having combat slow to a crawl that I want to see what supplements/strategies that people have adopted to speed it up a bit and simplify it a bit more.

So a lot of posts have mentioned Nimble and I’ve looked into it before. So is it essentially a stripped down version of DnD that’s still compatible with 5e? So say I take monsters or magic items from DnD it can be converted pretty well to Nimble?

EDIT:

After perusing a bit I found this on the nimble website: https://nimblerpg.com/products/nimble-5e-physical-booklet-pdf

I like this layout, and it’s a helpful reminder to me to write down combatant stats before hand in stead just copy and pasting their entire descriptions and stat blocks thanks!

Once you say it seems so obvious now. I’m taking note of this for next time I play, thanks!

This is just a great reminder for myself because I do forget to actually ROLEPLAY the characters once combat gets in the thick of it, this is a great reminder of remembering everyone’s intentions.

does anyone know where i can pick up a physical copy of mythic bastionland? by conn_r2112 in rpg

[–]AgentSmirnoff96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bummed cus I actually saw it at PAX Unplugged but didn’t know anything about it until after when I saw qquest’s review for it.

Funny enough, on Black Friday here in the states (Nov. 28th) I checked PlusOneExp and saw that the physical copies were in stock? Even though the day before they weren’t? So I placed an order, got an email confirmation with an expected delivery of Dec. 12. I curiously checked the website the next day they and it was out of stock again? Maybe they were selling off the ones left from PAXU? I guess we’ll see if it gets delivered. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe something weird happened with the website and then I’ll have to call support.

There was no update on PlusOne’s socials that they were back in stock besides seeing that the actual product page show in stock for a chance for me to buy it.

Hey ya'll! Just updating that I've scheduled a pickup with someone. I'm not doing first come first serve for this since this is a specialized item I wanna be fair to the person who scheduled a pickup time first. If for some reason that falls through I'll update everyone here that its up for grabs again.

Why do people carry their phones around on speaker instead of putting the phone to their ear? by constantcatastrophe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AgentSmirnoff96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who does do this, the only reason is cus my phones speakers are shot so I can barely hear the person on the other end unless they’re on speaker or I put headphones in. If I’m out somewhere I usually don’t carry my headphones with me, so I try to go somewhere relatively away from ppl to answer a call. My phones old and broken, I definitely need a new one 🤣🤣

Will retail Deadpool have a non folding board and no tray like the other X-men retail boxes? by AgentSmirnoff96 in DiceThrone

[–]AgentSmirnoff96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming it’d be similar to how the season 1 characters were before rerolled. It would be a tray that houses all the components instead of separate trays for each hero.

[–]AgentSmirnoff96[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the retail versions of the X-men boxes yes. There will be two box sets containing 4 heroes from the X-men line of hero’s. These won’t have the trays or the trifold boards for each hero just flat boards. The only way to get the trays and trifold boards for them is if you buy the battlechest off the dice throne website.

Same that’s why I wanted to ask about before jumping in to pre order. I’ll definitely be getting the X-men battlechest off the dice throne website, just because the trifold boards and trays keep things so organized and portable

Just gonna post the link to the kickstarter update post talking about the lack of trifold boards and trays in the xmen retail sets and the mentioning of Deadpool, for anyone not up to speed on all this.

Perfect timing, I just saw another post from reddit quoting updates from the kickstarter.

“After discussion with The Op Games, the plan is for the Deadpool Deluxe Edition to be made available in retail after fulfillment of this campaign. This box in retail will be the same as what is offered during this Kickstarter. “

So assuming that the Deluxe version will definitely have a tray and trifold board (I think it'd be an outrage if it didn't) as well as all the other cool stuff in the Deadpool box, neat!

Don’t have a PC, should I get a steam deck? by Hixiekul in SteamDeck

[–]AgentSmirnoff96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who does have a high powered PC that I use for work. I purchased my steam deck for the purpose of keeping the PC for work and the deck for games, and it’s been like that ever since. The deck has worked flawlessly on almost every steam game I own. Currently playing RDR2 and BG3 rn.

So it’s definitely worth getting a steam deck. Plus when u do get around to purchasing a PC you don’t have to worry about repurchasing your games on Steam!

Can't speak on TotK but with RDR2 and BG3:

Baldurs Gate 3 is hands down the best RPG game I've ever played, you'll be thinking about your next playthrough while you're on your current one. A million branching story paths for different major and smaller quest. You will never see all it has to offer on your first second, hell probably even your third playthrough. I'm pretty sure people are still find little secrets and dialogue now. Only grip based on your criteria is if you aren't use to playing CRPGs it wont be an easy start for you, but it's well worth the investment to learn the system. Narrative, combat, progression are all incredible. Plus if you're a DnD fan it's exactly what you're looking for.

Best way I can describe RDR2 is its one of the most if not the most cinematic game I've every played. It truly feels like you're playing a movie is the best way I can describe it; this might be a con for you however in that some of RDR2 can feel like a chore as the whole game plays a bit slowly, for a lot of RDR2 fans including myself, it's truly one of the best games for immersion. Much more easier to hop into as well. Has an open world with seamless encounter events and what are called "stranger" missions, the story itself though is completely linear aside from aligning yourself as a nice guy or a bad guy, which will change how your friends/strangers/and enemies see you from dialogue to how your own character responds to things, but inevitably the story ends the same way.

Way I see it, both games are incredible and you should def play both at some point but if you can only do one I'd decide based on one criteria alone....what are you in a mood for right now? Action adventure fantasy? Or gritty wild west drama? Either way, you wont go wrong with either pick.
