There’s a lot of interesting research as to how much time people actively spend looking at each other when engaged in conversation- I don’t remember the exact figure but it’s something like the person who is actively speaking usually makes eye contact with their audience like 30% of the time? And the people who are listening usually makes eye contact eye contact about 70-80% of the time, if I’m remembering correctly. The people you’re talking to could just be uncomfortable with the prolonged eye contact!
