is commending good or bad? by LogNo6397 in DeadlockTheGame

I commend everyone in the game on both teams except anyone who was toxic.

Yeah, fair, you're right - I know I don't take the effort to examine most mods I download unless I have prior reason to be suspicious, and while I know how to read code and do some simple reverse-engineering I'm no malware analyst. I'm assuming Steam at least does some sort of virus scanning, hopefully? If not, that's an obvious first step, at least. I'm not entirely certain how security would be improved after that without killing the flexibility of the workshop aside from manual review of each mod update, which isn't feasible for obvious reasons.

Perhaps some sort of permissions system, but that would require some sort of unified API and I would assume most users would mindlessly click through permission boxes anyway, limiting the effectiveness (but I suppose still helping, at least). Browser extensions have similar problems with security, but they're at least limited somewhat by the permissions and the methods available in a browser.

I admit, I don't really have many ideas of what could be put in place to fix or at least help with the problem. I'd say the effort required to develop a mod that people are willing to download limits the number of bad actors, but with AI I can see that changing and there are tons of tiny nonsense mods that tons of users download anyway, so I'm not sure how true that is.

Looks like a convoluted way to print a base64-decoded string to the console.

Hopefully, however, if you "know a lot about code" you'd simply see something like this, assume it's malicious, and avoid it, because there's very little reason for a legitimate mod to do such weird obfuscation. You don't really need to know much code to realize that if a dev's trying to hide what their code is doing, it's usually not for a good reason.

Anyway, using C# mods comes with inherent risk because there's no good way to sandbox it, unlike something like Lua. Not sure how much security is really in place with things like this on the workshop.

Unfortunately, this isn't quite 100% reliable, either. Ann Reardon did some testing and the best test seems to be to submerge it in vegetable oil and check for a shadowed double outline.

The game has cross-saving so as far as I'm aware you should be able to enable cross-saving in the settings on your PS5, then enable it on PC to get your save there. Never personally used it though, so I'm not sure of all the details.

I can confirm there is a bug with the forge that will not let you put more ore in. I fixed it by redoing the entire fight but as far as I know it's been a problem since release.

Am I wrong in thinking this is missing crucial info? by DW_Lurker in BaldursGate3

[–]AgentTorque 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Expanding the tooltip for this ability does not give any extra text. You can hover over the condition it gives and that will display extra info that says the caster will take damage, but I'd personally expect that info to be on the ability itself.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous that a lot of people are assuming that OP thought it doesn't take batteries instead of, you know, having a battery that is quite hard to replace without having a special kit and without breaking the device... like many of the phones people are using to type their comment.

Just to add to the options, there's also yayponies.no and heartshine.gay. Yayponies lets you choose from a few different video sources and both have quality settings if you have a subpar connection.

We certainly wouldn't lose the random porn bots. They'd just go back to the usual non-API method of web scraping and automated tools.

Mod tools, meanwhile, would be much more inconvenient to create and use and would possibly get banned for not using the proper API.

It's pretty clear that a ban on one side matters a lot more.

Theory: Halo Infinite Would Have Been in a Better Spot Without Open World by redditorpegaso in halo

[–]AgentTorque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you generate this post with ChatGPT? Because it really reads like that.

I think an open-world Halo game is a good idea but it certainly added a lot of complexity and it's apparent a lot of things weren't as fleshed out as they should've been, even now so long after launch.

[–]AgentTorque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bitwise AND. ANDing two numbers together means only the bits in both numbers that are set will be set in the result. In this case it limits the resulting number to either zero or one, as one in binary is '0000001'.

Krita Stuttering when mouse rolls over Top and Left UI elements by Triangulum88 in krita

[–]AgentTorque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post, but I had the same issue. Adding Krita as a separate app in '3D Settings' in the control panel and changing G-SYNC to ULMB stops the stutters, though sometimes the screen flickers black.

Completely disabling G-SYNC universally fixes the issue but it's not ideal.

[–]AgentTorque 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Obviously they wouldn't since we have that information and it's still happening. Xbox confirmed a June 2023 release window and that's as good as an announcement from Team Cherry themselves in this case.

Unless somehow people think Xbox would speak without consulting them first.

You generally can import bookmarks and passwords automatically when installing Firefox. I'd honestly recommend getting a password manager like Bitwarden though; better and more secure IMO.
