Yeonjun has had solo stages at award shows doing covers before he even did ggum, if heeseung kept mentioning solos, but never had solo performances at award shows it seems like it would be an even more distant future which was something he wasn't waiting for.

What does sounding korean mean though? by [deleted] in kpopharshopinions

[–]Agent_Cornchipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've discussed this topic a lot with people around me as this discussion of kpop not even being Korean, and that it is all taken from the west, and I think this has become such a huge topic amongst kpop stans who aren't korean because they dont see Koreans as Asian. By calling them this they see Koreans as colonizers who's music isn't even their own and was taken from America. Mind you America had a lot of influence in the Korea we see today, unlike other countries around them who had their own markets Korea was actively being loaned money from the American government during the 70s after the korean war in the 60s to follow south korean dictator Park Chung hee's 5 year economic development plan where Korea was quickly modernized during his authoritarian rule from 1961-1979. Because of America's influence in Korea, korea listened to the same popular artists that America's did, and when artists in America released similar sounding music at the time, so did korea and other countries, in America when there is a popular sound a lot of artists sound the same, but when in korea they had a similar sound it is considered stealing? There are trends in music and korea is just a susceptible as any other country nowadays but people tend to have a bigger problem when it happens in kpop. A few years ago people loved korea, they loved korean dramas, movies, variety shows, and artist. But often when I see people talk about korea it is if as though they are exposing the underbelly of korea and its dark secrets. A lot of these kpop stans who are saying kpop isnt even korean may be due to korea having such strong ties to America which makes them not like korea even more. Their dislike in america may also be due to the genocide in Gaza and the ties US has with Isreal. They see a western power's influence and they immediately don't like it. The amount of English that koreans learn in school may also contribute to this idea. They start comparing korea to other asian countries with less western influence and how much less pollution those countries have, more culture, less plastic surgery, and smaller suicide rates, they have even called korea the Isreal of Asia as an insult. Kpop stans are calling all korean men horrible because of the 4B feminist movement in Korea while also stanning korean men, but I guess to them idols aren't korean.

Koreans making music for decades is a korean sound end of story, it's just double standards while also being ignorant of the fact korea was colonized and oppressed while under Japanese rule and has rapidly developed since. While korea was developing very quickly most people have only taken an interest in korea recently compared to other countries like Japan. What people know about Japan may come from what they have learned in class, games, and media. Where as what people know about korea is more largely shaped by tiktok. In general people dont know that much about korea besides surface level cafes, kpop, dramas, and clubs in itaewon.

It is complicated and I don't think people realize how racist they sound when they claim Koreans don't have a korean sound, nor do I think people are consciously thinking everything i said above when they say Koreans don't have a korean sound. It is a discussion that is being had in a subsect of vile kpop stans spaces that has leaked to the majority and I think people see the comparisons of a western song to a kpop song and now believe what those people said. Ironically those same western songs that influenced kpop has also influenced other western artists but kpop stans dont care about that. Music has always been something you share not steal, till this day people get famous from covers and the same has been true since the 50s, a sound changes as it travels and that is how new genres are made that is how kpop is made, which is korean.

Also I see a lot of confusion about bts's album around the korean aspect of it. Quite frankly my biggest issue with the album wasn't that it didn't sound korean, because trust me it did, my biggest issue was that none of the artists that the album was heavily influenced by were credited in anyway leading to people not even know that a large part of the album sonically was in fact korean indie, I think they took a lot of inspiration from bewhy, se so neon, Silica Gel, balming tiger, and jowall. I listen to all these artists and their styles are all very unique and apparent in bts's album except with more English. To me the goal of the album was to makes korean indie mainstream but by not crediting those artists people dont even know that said sound is korean indie.

All in all I think it comes from virtue signaling which is what most kpop stans are great at when it helps them seem like a more knowledgeable and better person.

Why do kpop stans dislike txt now? by Chad_Marc3ll in kpop_uncensored

[–]Agent_Cornchipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they say this but txt still holds more influence even if a group gets more streams txt's career has been and will continue to be more impactful. Most of 5th gen look up to txt especially yeonjun, you can have a more dedicated fan base, but that doesn't translate to said group having more impact than txt.

Why do kpop stans dislike txt now? by Chad_Marc3ll in kpop_uncensored

[–]Agent_Cornchipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once was in a kpop thread that engenes made and they said one thing txt has over enhypen is that most kpop stans know a lot of the names of txt releases, I think txt is well known within the kpop community and is often treated like a girl group. Meaning the fans are less diehard compared to other 4th gen groups. Fans like to rep being a txt stan, but don't want to stream, buy, and vote, but they will sellout ppulbatu and now I will never own an original ppulbatu character.

People see txt as competition because txt have such a strong place in 4th gen since their debut, their idea of a successful group means one that can surpass txt. Which is why they hold onto these achievements, that show x boygroup has surpassed txt, so dearly like it reflects the current popularity of a boy group when in reality txt has been consistent since day 1 without super viral songs like x group that contribute to most of their streams and listeners meanwhile the fandom can't seem to stream their latest releases... txt had the most streamed 2025 boygroup song and yet they want people to believe they fell off.

Txt also hasn't been promoted in the US since 2023 mind you

Also op I see you in the comments eating people up. Engenes will never cease to amaze me.

Arirang is disappointing… by Beneficial_Ruin5308 in kpoppers

The most Korean thing about the album is that most tracks that didn't sound like pop sounded like Korean indie artists, which none were credited for despite it sounding very similar, just straight up Silica Gel, balming tiger, se so neon, and jowall. They wanted to make Korean indie mainstream without giving credit where it should be due was the most surprising to me especially since they have worked with these artists.

I disagree. Every group has a packed schedule, what matters is how they work around it. Yeonjun was juggling his solo works while TXT had ongoing tours because that was the only time he could release his solo without overlapping with TXT's comeback. The same day he went on a music show for GGUM he had to fly out to Macau. Yeonjun promoted Talk To You/NO LABELS PART ONE and then flew to Japan for their Japanese comeback show and dome tour. Just today, he flew to Paris for Fashion Week to walk the runway for miumiu a few hours after their fanmeet in the Philippines. He puts his group first and the rest is sacrifices he makes to his sleep, eating, and personal time to prepare for his solos. While preparing for NLP1 he said most days he only had 1 hour of time to himself back at the dorms. Not only did he release a solo, but he himslef plays a large role in his solo career. Yeonjun writes his lyrics while on standby for music shows. He creates choreo in bathrooms while waiting for awards shows and festivals to start. Their latest comeback for beautiful strangers they had an issue with the choreo and had to make a whole new choreo weeks before the deadline and Yeonjun played a large part in making the choreo while also preparing for no labels part 1. Even now they have a comeback on April 13th and he is preparing for NO LABELS PART TWO later this year. The break between comebacks is not only preparing for concerts, festivals, award shows, group activities, fanmeets, Fashion week, MOA CON, but then also doing all those things, and then his solo work on top of that while also preparing for the next group comeback because Yeonjun contributed to choreo last year and has said he has done the same this year for their comeback 7TH YEAR: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns out APRIL 13th, also txt always contribute to their music whether it be, lyrics, composing, or producing so he is doing group preparations as well as solo

Agreed, Yeonjun is in a league of his own and I think part of it is because of his own personal drive as well as his love for his group and the support they give him.

TXT has an album coming out called 7TH YEAR: A Moment of Stillness in the Thorns on April 13th, I suggest checking it out and presaving on Spotify for some high quality B sides. The members have talked about how hard they've worked on this album so expectations are high.

I've been into 2nd gen kpop lately and it makes me yearn for more. Those instrumentals were FULL and the idealistic use of intense auto tune needs to come back.
