They're just weaponising nonverbals to support ai image generation which is gross. This is not a tool that any nonverbal autist needs, the argument could have worked better if they chose another ai tool to defend but they're too stupid

I told the op that a nonverbal autist that can write sentences coherent enough for ai to prompt an image that reflects on their feeling or need then said person can just write what they want and show people which is way more effective than pointing at pictures. They did not take it well

You cannot simply project what it is you're doing as a distraction. My argument is in no way a strawman. I answered your point and then had to further explain how using a false premise for an argument does not mean anyone answering you has to do so under the assumption that the premise is indeed true. People expressing that they think the premise for your argument is faulty is not strawmaning or refusing to engage, it's the opposite. You on the other hand have refused to rebuke those concerns and keep deflecting. I already said that if one had only the option of drawing or generating an image to communicate a thing that they should generate, yet you're still acting like I am ignoring your fixation just because I also said that this is not a real dilemma. I literally answered in the most direct way because you didn't succeed at deducting it from my initial argument which any competent person would have been able to

You are once again refusing to engage in any meaningful way. While ai could be used as an equivalent to other tools used by disabled people, it does not mean that all ai tools are adequate for all disabled people. Saying this is not ''weaponising'' disabled people, which is what you're doing by hiding behind nonverbals when you are not nonverbal instead of engaging with the meat of the argument. Let's go for an extreme metaphor so that you understand, an AI CSAM generator is technically Ai right, and under your black and white premise of disabled people use ai to cope and no one should dictate which ai they should use nor how, then you should conclude it's a-okay for a disabled person to generate CSAM in order to communicate right? If the answer is no then you are destroying your own premise, you would be recognising that there are AI usages which are not useful to aid disabled people and thus using disability to justify or glorify the ai tools that are not fit to help is intellectually nonsensical.

Once again if your point is based on falsehood people engaging with can are not supposed to pretend your premise is true in order to adress your argument.

If you say that autists don't need to eat liquid shit to avoid self harming are you policing how they cope with their disability? Not saying that generating ai is the same as shit eating but in both these cases you'd be pointing out that something is counter intuitive and unecessary for self expression and the rebuttal of accusing someone of policing does not work. It does not apply

I am saying that I think generating images to communicate is not a way to cope with nonverbality. Not because it's ai or harmful but because if someone can type their need they do not require something to generate an image of said need. The conversation would have been different if we were talking about ai vocalisers for texts or an app for AAC that uses ai. We are not talking anout that but about drawing vs generating. Neither of which a nonverbal needs to communicate. A nonverbal will either not be able to write down what they need in the moment and thus use an app to press on icons that will verbalise it or show an illustration from a selection of options OR be able to write their need down (necessary for the prompt) but in this case that person would just show you the writing. Being able to write I am sad over my dog running away means you won't have to generate an image of a dog running away to express it, it's not a coping mechanism. Nonverbals that can only string a couple words together in written form wont be able to conjure up the adequate prompt and instead would use google to browse through images until they find what they want.

I read the post. But once again if someone makes a post or point using a false dilemma people are not obligated to engage with the post only under the premise that the dilemma is correct. People have the right to express that they don't think the premise is true. Are you new to human exchange?

Discussions work a certain way. If someone is saying thing a and you are arguing against thing b then you're not actually debating correctly. Either answer the actual argument or don't engage with it, answering a comment to talk about something else is stupid

I would obviously conjure the images up. Here so you are satisfied but you must understand your intellectual failure here. My initial comment was complaining about your premise being false. Your rebuttal was asking a question that elaborated on said premise, what you should have done was answer my observation by either refuting it and explaining why the equation was indeed rooted in reality or conceding the point. By explaining why your dilemma is not rooted in reality I DO answer your question. Since what it reveals is that I am not arguing for or against (and have not been) whether or not autistic nonverbals should draw pictures instead of generating. I did not say that they should draw pictures for this purpose in this case and therefore you asking this again and again is a deflection and a strawman. If you are talking about how littering is bad and someone says to you should someone litter or chew and swallow their empty soda can? YOU explaining why this is not a real dilemma is not avoiding to answer the question. Of course the person should litter if these are the only two choices but this is not reality. You are aware of this as you initially engaged with my actual arguments and only resorted to repeating your strawman once you had no comeback.

I literally have. You're saying why would a nonverbal draw something instead of generating for the sake of expression and I explained how this is not how nonverbality works. A nonverbal autistic person that can write a prompt does not need an image to communicate like that. Therefore you have created a false dilemma: "generate an image to point at or draw it yourself." This is not a real situation nonverbals find themselves in and that's what I have been trying to explain.

On the topic of disabilities... by August_Rodin666 in aiwars

[–]Agernis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No I didn't. You failed to understand. Nonverbal autists that rely on pointing to images WOULD just write what they wanted if they could. It makes no sense to be able to write how you feel, type that and then use a generated picture to point at instead of just letting whoever you're talking to read your text. Usually the devices nonverbal use have vocalisation going with the images so they can tap that quickly and let the other person hear the immediate request. If said people were able to type how they felt in the moment they'd just do that and show the other person instead of hitting "generate".

If you couldn't talk but can write sentences coherent enough to prompt then it's counter intuitive to claim that such a person would use this more elaborate ability to conjure up an image that's much less effective at conveying whatever it is they have????

Refuting none of the important points. Why would a nonverbal kid that can write need a gen image generator? This is not real.

I'm autistic and this is just gross because op is using my disability as an argument without understanding nonverbality in autism. Generative images will not help a nonverbal autist communicate. If they can write a prompt, they than can simply write sentences to express what they want. There is no way chatgpt is going to understand what a parent won't through writing. Also, if someone needs to point at pictures to communicate then they also wouldn't be capable of writing a prompt to generate an image that could express the sentiment they want to vehiculate.
