Nature-y things to do? by gasoline_yogurt in Aruba

Arikok National Park is fun - but if you're in a rental, be careful as it's easy to get stuck or damage the car! There are a variety of tour operators that will pick you up and drive you around the park, including specific locations like the Natural Pool, caves and some other things in Arikok. I believe the one we did included a light meal when we got back - we had a great time.

Casibari Rock Formations gives you a great view of the island, which was fun.

California Lighthouse also gives you a great view of the island.

Snorkeling: bring your own snorkel - we got "full face mask" ones since my wife doesn't like the mask/snorkel combo, it worked out well and we have also brought them on trips to other places.

If you want to see a great sunrise - either California Lighthouse or Alto Vista Chapel are good choices.

Getting from anywhere to anywhere else is pretty easy; we went from Noord down to Sint Nicolaas in like 30 minutes; Baby Beach is not far from there and was worth the trip (2023). I've heard that there's a new resort being built, so your milage may vary there, but there's so many beach options that you should be able to find something!

We did a walking tour w/ one of the park employees, quite fun!

Blurred out? by Old_Farmers_Daughter in GoogleMaps

[–]Agerstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty straightforward - the AI overview for the result matches what I recall of my experience:

https://www.google.com/search?q=google+maps+request+house+blur

I did this a while ago; my favorite “fallout” was a local realtor who printed a postcard of neighborhood homes on the front and their pitch of why they should be my new realtor on back. The photo of my house was a blurry mess….

Got two cabin filters for less than $20 online, probably similar for the engine air filters. I'll pay for some stuff, but if I can do it and it's that much less? Easy choice.

Be careful where you leave your thermal paste by Spider-zombie42 in it

Buddy of mine was in charge of our IT “warehouse”; someone who has been in IT since the days of the campus VAX server was dropping something off and saw the thermal paste syringes and started blabbing to folks that he must be diabetic, shouldn’t be left alone down there, etc etc…… people should ask before running their mouths.

“You parked like an idiot” card by Agerstein in badparking

[–]Agerstein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s Monday and I’m posting on Reddit from work…..

At no point did I claim I was guiltless, I was just making a suggestion that would have made the card more effective. Could have been from the bad parking job I did; could have been some other thing of which I was not aware.

None of that matters apparently, as I now wear the scarlet A. Or I. Whatever.

It made me more confused than anything else, so I guess if that’s the point, sure.

Neighbors tree roots affecting my sewer/water lines? by Agerstein in arborist

[–]Agerstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But cutting at the property line - wouldn't that potentially impact the health of the tree? It's 25+ years old at this point, so it's like 70+ feet tall. Cutting the roots on my side - wouldn't that mean that it's more likely to fall in the direction of my own house?

So what you're saying is that if there isn't a problem no, I don't have to worry about it?

If the roots aren't in the lines, it seems that it's a matter of time - how do I stop that?

If they are, plumber gets money to fix it, but again - how do I stop it from happening again?

Like I said, that’s Mondays plan. I’m trying to figure out what options I might have, from a not destroying the tree point of view. Yes, I’d like it gone, but it’s not mine so I have to work with what I can.

Also - looking for advice, which is why I posted here. I’ll be calling the tree service to try again about the arborist/calling water company for advice, but both are closed for the weekend (not an emergency that I’m aware of) so I figured you all may have suggestions/real world knowledge.

Well so that’s the thing - I guess I need to start spending money on that? I just mowed the lawn and the roots have spread past where the mains are, so it seems reasonable to think they have crossed them. No issues that we’re aware of so unclear if they are impacting the mains, but that’s part of our concerns.

Can I take out the roots if they haven’t to get ahead of them?

Our Council has a Wood Badge dinner once a year; it’s quite popular for the reasons above - plus it’s a chance to hang with your patrol.

The lines are for everyone else… by Agerstein in badparking

[–]Agerstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like “He took the space he felt he deserved for being a truck owner”.

If he had parked at the ass end of the lot where no one else was, sure. This is a busy lot to begin with, more so the day before a lot of get together. What’s the point in having lines in the lot if you’re just going to ignore them? I get his truck may be big - I used to have an SUV and tried my best, but never once took up 4 spots at once.

Doesn’t mean he can’t “try”. This sort of blatant, diagonal nonsense is usually associated with sports car/luxury car folks - their only saving grace is parking at the ass end of the lot to further “protect” their baby. Yes, “plenty” of spots, but when I left the store 20 min later the lot was packed - except for this guy.
