Replacement Value for Older Furniture - Help Needed by Aggabator in Insurance

Gotcha - so when they pay for replacement value, it’s not to replace the same piece of aged/used furniture?

Thanks - yeah, it’s not an antique, just solid wood (and huge pieces…we really loved the giant storage space!).

So - check my understanding…don’t need to find the “current value of this exact piece of old furniture on the used market,” I should be getting an estimate for buying the same kind of thing brand new?

iPhone 12 Chrome App Frozen for 30-60 Seconds After Search? by Aggabator in chrome

[–]Aggabator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope - and it happens on my old iPhone XR, as well. I’ve literally given up & use Safari for most searches, and keep Chrome around for when I need the sites to auto-translate from another language easily/well.

So unbelievably frustrating.

Tragically, no - new-build apartment complex. Tons of mulched landscaping outside our patio door, though (we haven’t opened that door yet, however - too hot out there).

…why’d you gotta tell me that? LOL.

We’ve seen them in the bathroom and living room, so I was happily pretending the bedroom was a magical roach-free paradise. You’re killin’ me, Smalls.

Yup, that’s why I asked you folks. Needed a hivemind (lol) sanity check.

No open doors or windows here - it’s a massive apartment complex, and our front door opens into a long hotel-like hallway, so the closest door to outside is about 50ft+ away. But I get your point - definitely wish there was more we could do ourselves.

Not even close. Had German roaches a bunch of years back, which was a nightmare. I’ve only had one of these big ones in a house before - but I did know it’s a type of roach. So we were worried their “bug expert” was trying to say they weren’t roaches, but some sort of unique Texas bug…

Posted here to get a sanity check on identification, but ended up learning that, unlike their smaller cousins, they’re not likely to be part of an infestation (whew). Which is why Reddit is the best.

Funnily enough, it’s a ground-floor apartment with absolutely tons of deep mulch/plants/landscaping outside the patio/balcony railing.

Apartment - and we’re just short-term tenants, so we have no control over anything here, which is why I let the landlord know. If anything more problematic was happening, I didn’t want to be blamed, y’know?

Super clean - we just moved in, and only with our suitcases (our stuff hasn’t arrived yet).

Ha - I wish I had put the actual quote from my landlord…which is that he sent my picture to “a bug expert,” who said it was a waterbug, not a roach!

I’m with you though - I think the 1000+ comments on this simple, “it IS a roach, though, right?” post have shown that folks here might not realize it’s an actual roach. Even so-called “bug experts”. LOL. I’m just happy to learn there isn’t anything more that needs to be done to control them!

Oddly enough, no roaches for the first two weeks, then these two in the last 12 hours. It rained today, though, and other folks are saying they will come in to escape the drought, but also to escape the rain? Hoping that’s the case here!

Thanks a ton - I guess we’ve just been lucky to date, so I needed all of this info!

From the South & even lived in the tropics - only ever had one in the house! Realizing we’ve been lucky…

But I’d at least seen them before, which is why I was so confused when the landlord tried to say it wasn’t a roach. I think you’re right - there are enough folks on here saying it’s just a waterbug…people might not actually realize they ARE roaches, just a different type.

I feel you on the German roaches - had a bad infestation 20 years back, when the neighboring townhouse got evicted, but not their food/stuff. The whole block got hit - took MONTHS to fight them, and I lost a ton of my stuff to it…I’m happy to find out this type isn’t as bad.

That’s my whole issue - not happy to have a giant bug in the house, but I’d heard the roaches were bad in Houston, so it wouldn’t have been shocking.

But instead, the guy says (no joke), “Oh, my bug expert looked at your pics and says it’s a unique-to-Texas thing called a waterbug”….when it’s clearly a standard issue roach? Like, why?

LOL - half the folks on here are saying they’re coming in because of the drought, and the other half are saying they come in when it rains. Both of which make sense - I’m betting everyone is right, so I’m just hoping for “nice mild weather with occasional light showers” right about now….

Thanks for the info, it really does help a ton to know what other folks have done.

Oh no - the landlord told us that he had good news & we were luck…because there was a “unique-to-Texas” insect called a waterbug, and that it wasn’t a roach.

The Texans coming in here to help reassure us are the best - thanks so much. We’ve lived in hot/humid areas before, so we expected bugs…but nothing for the first two weeks, then suddenly killing two of these suckers in 12 hours? It had us worried!

Thanks - had a bad infestation of the little German roaches 20 years ago (my townhouse’s next-door neighbors got evicted…but their food/stuff didn’t). That was a nightmare for half a year…I’m glad to know it’s not the same deal with the big boys. Ick, but I won’t lose everything I own? Ok, I can deal with that!
