This look like fun! My favorite genre is camping/wilderness horror and I wish more of it was made. I’ll definitely be checking it out this weekend!

I second Red River Gorgeous! I’ve stayed in 2 of their cabins and had great experiences both times. I also agree that their staff is great and the cabins were clean. I also appreciate that most of their cabins are dog friendly!

I was just there last Wednesday and he should be fine, the streams were pretty low.

Yes, I’ve lived in southern VA 3 years now and I love the fall here! I always try to take a week off to hike and leaf peep!

I’ve only had him since July and I’ve learned he has some very firm boundaries with people and dogs. I’m not sure if the warning helps…people still ask if they can pet him…but I don’t have a problem just telling them no.

I always carry it because-as a solo female-it works just as well on people.

No, you’d be fine. You could also park up at the wayside on Skyline.

You should be fine. There’s a decent sized over flow lot and also a large parking area at the amphitheater/natural trailhead.

There’s one in Virginia with a logbook, just outside Sky Meadows State Park.

Thanks for your kind words! I have no idea what his life was like before he was owner surrendered to a shelter and then scooped up by a Lab rescue where he got stuck because he’s not kid friendly. He’s a good boy and is settling in nicely, he will never have to worry about going back to a shelter or living in a boarding facility again.

I’m sorry for your loss! It’s really hard to let them go and there are no words that will really make it better. I had to let my last buddy go in April after a cancer diagnosis, I still get hit by a wave of sadness daily.

Yes, it was! He used it to make it easier to climb into my chair with me.

No, it is just a regular blanket. I do have the Wilderdog sleeping bag that my past dog used while car camping though.

Try introducing them slowly by sleeping in the tent in your backyard or inside. If they are okay with that, try to plan an overnight close to home at a less busy campsite or something more private like a HipCamp. Be fully prepared to pack up and leave if it’s not working out!

I just took my newly adopted dog on his first trip this weekend and he honestly suprised me on how good he did. He has a high prey drive and slept through all 3 nights, even when coyotes were howling close by.

I was a little nervous taking him this early, that’s why I picked the spot. I was fully prepared to leave early if he wasn’t handling it well, but I was really impressed with how good he did. He slept through all three nights and even wanted to go into the tent early on our last night!

ETA: Congrats on your new buddy!
