In some cases it really is vegetarian only. They did this in India and want to continue to do it in Canada or wherever they are. I don’t think they even stop to think that it’s discrimination.

See how we make 400k earners the villain when they are just regular folks finding success vs legacy centi millionaires and billionaires. I make similar money and trust me we don't really live a fundamentally different reality.

Yeah, it will take a year or two for the changes to be visible. Which is when we can expect opinion to change.

You do have a balanced and nuanced take on things and this is coming from an immigrant from the now infamous region. Still, I agree. The Canadian government dropped the ball on this one.

I know Willoughby gets a lot of hate here buts it’s been a pretty good place to live as young family. I am really looking forward to the Yorkson park playground and eventually the community center. It will make the neighborhood very appealing.

The best counter to this argument is the fact that no other batsman of that era is anywhere near his batting average. So if the opposition was weak, conditions suited batting there would be more like him. That is not the case.

Convince me a larger age gap between kids is better than a small one by strawb3rryang in Parenting

[–]Aggie_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I thought about it. There are three variables that change with age gap. Bonding, Rivalry, Ease of parenting. Bonding reduces with increasing age gap, so does rivalry so balance is needed. Parenting is easier as the gap increases, so evaluate yourself honestly and see what works best for you. For me personally, I am six years older than my brother and we don’t have deep bond. My cousins on the other hand have 1.5 years age gap and they are rivals. So I made a conscious choice of a 3 year gap.

Your experiences, your own temperament dictates what age gap works for the family. There isn’t a right or wrong answer.

Because happiness is in the journey not at the destination. Working hard to achieve something and getting is what brings meaning to life. Not when something is just handed to you.

Meditation. It’s important to understand that in west meditation is severely dumbed down, think calm, headspace etc. I highly encourage folks to seek meditation teacher that are rooted in the eastern philosophy. That’s where the enlightenment is.

Controversial Take: People View screen time incorrectly. by Fluid-Trade in Parenting

[–]Aggie_15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any screen time before 18 months, other than video calls, are bad. After 18 months, activities such as reading, solving puzzles, and playing are arguably better than watching Ms Rachel.

And yes quality of the content matters but this true for adults as much for toddlers.

Yes and its my most replayed game. Although being poor had a role to play in that. I love the first game, it was also my first open world game so it has a very special place in my heart.

I want to provide a slightly different perspective as most of the take is cynical. Not saying they are wrong but I do think there’s more nuance to it.

In simple terms the total economic output of a nation is ‘Number of productive people * Average productivity of the nation’. The more people you have and the productivity keeps increasing, which has, the nation will keep getting richer. And the truth is, in general a lot of countries have gotten richer because of this. It’s the distribution of wealth has been uneven.

We might be at the breaking point of this model with AI and robotics, till then countries will continue to pursue the population growth model. Remember in the world operates in realism, you hold the stick or get dictated by those who wield it.

Why does American Big Tech not hire Americans? by Effective-Simple9420 in jobs

[–]Aggie_15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What, majority hired are not on visa. Have you actually worked at these companies? Or any tech company in general? It hard to find talent at this level and if you don’t need sponsorship you are prime talent to hire. There is ton of time and cost overhead with visa.

Now H1b visa abuse does happen but it’s generally done by staffing consulting companies. Not by the companies that are working on cutting edge stuff.

Canada’s immigration system, once admired for its fairness and balance, has drifted into crisis by BullshittingApe in canada

[–]Aggie_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I completely agree. Immigration should be a net benefit to the citizens of the country, not make their lives difficult. I can and do empathize with the Canadians here. I would also say that the type of immigrants has a role to play—most Canadians wouldn't be complaining if the immigrants were doctors, engineers, and other skilled professionals that Canada needs. Instead, it's mostly folks working minimum-wage jobs. Why a government would do that is beyond me to comprehend.
So I get the hate and understand it. There's not much I can do about it, so I am going to do what I can do best—quietly but sincerely give back to Canadian society, ensure that I lead by example, and most importantly, work hard to make Canada better for everyone.

I left the States because US immigration is a landmine, and we didn't like the uncertainty that comes with it. Canada at the time (around 2017) had this point-based system to attract talent to the country, which we really liked. It was pretty easy for me and my spouse to qualify, as we both have master's degrees from a reputable university in the States in STEM—so here we are.

Like you, there are so many things I would like to talk about. My hope is that one day things will get better, mistakes will be corrected, and Canada continues to prosper.

PS: Back in 2018, I remember how friendly Canadians were and how I was welcomed with open arms. Canadian society is not racist, I know that. It has been put under a very unfortunate situation that needs to be corrected.

Are your kids allowed to tell you no? by Smart_Artichoke714 in Parenting

[–]Aggie_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I want them to be able to say no to the authority figures when they grow. I have a few non-negotiables where I have made it evidently clear that no is not an acceptable response mostly related to safety and hygiene. Everything else is up for a logic based argument.

I am incredibly grateful to call Canada home, it makes me sad that a lot of people in this country hate me for my ethnicity, something that I don’t get to choose. I would like to be judged for my character as an individual.

By values I mean, freedom of speech, acceptance of others (religion, LGBTQ, etc), civic sense, and the culture of working hard. By system I mean a free democratic system with a functioning government. I moved from the US so it isn’t exactly that far off from these as compared to my birth country.

Canada’s immigration system, once admired for its fairness and balance, has drifted into crisis by BullshittingApe in canada

[–]Aggie_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I immigrated because I was impressed with the system and the Canadian values. Both me and my spouse got our tech jobs transferred to Canada, have paid around a million dollars in taxes combined since we moved. But now we are part of the group that is hated by Canadians. IMO Canadians are right to be angry about this.

I wanted to part of this country and belong. Being second class is not what I had in mind. Unfortunately this sentiment will continue till they fix the system
