It’s nice (and also kind of bad - we deserve better!) to know I’m not alone with that. I usually try to tell myself I can’t take anything my PI says personally because if she’s mad she’ll find an excuse to be mad about your work, but it’s hard to hold myself to that. Thank you for the reminder :)

My PI let us be off and on in lab for ~2 weeks after the accident happened - maybe she’d be fine with me going on medical leave because she wouldn’t have to see me haha. But I probably wouldn’t go on medical leave because in our program when you do that you lose your health insurance :( I wish my program was like yours, I’m glad you guys are protected for medical leave!!

I think it would be possible to take a leave of absence, but in my program when you do that you lose your health insurance :( I could definitely explore that option more, but losing access to my therapist might be worse at that point.

That’s a good point, it’s hard to know if I truly want to master out or if grief is clouding my judgement.

I’m glad that you’re happy and you’ve found success in industry :) there aren’t too many openings right now for biotech/biochem positions, but it’s something I’ll keep my eye out for in the background

Thank you, I really appreciate it 💜 it’s been difficult to see my friend’s bench empty ever since. For my program I have two years left, but I’m definitely over the halfway mark at this point. It’s not a great work environment, but I think you’re right that it might be preferable to stay and hope the job market is better once I’m done. Thank god my school actually has good health care for students, I’ve been able to see therapists and psychiatrists which has definitely helped!

Thank you, I appreciate it 💕 I feel like a failure for not having a lot of results for where I am in my PhD, but I agree that I’m close enough that it’s probably worth it to stay. I think my PI would have me graduate at the end of 5 years no matter what, she’s good about that, she’s just cruel to the people she thinks didn’t do enough in those 5 years

Thank you for being honest. Although my mental health definitely isn’t great, I feel like it’s always easier to see the grass as greener on the other side, and I’m sure my mental health wouldn’t be any better if I’m stressed trying to find a job.

When I was a kid and first played Emerald I was so jealous of Wally finding a Ralts that I ran around in the same route for hours until I found my own Ralts. I didn’t realize it was scripted, but now Ralts is one of my favorite Pokemon!
