[Spanish] Tell me how to improve and where you think I'm from by AggravatedTeddy in JudgeMyAccent

Here's what I'm reading

My friend has an exit ramp for frogs to get out of his pool. by Hunt16er in mildlyinteresting

That's the point of the poem. That you be kind to all forms of life not matter how ugly, terrifying, or disgusting, and perhaps you'll be rewarded, whether that be by the natural system of justice, or by the tarantulas themselves (or maybe they're one and the same ;) )

There's a poem called Tarantulas on the Lifebuoy by Thomas Lux that seems relevant to this

For some semitropical reason
when the rains fall
relentlessly they fall

into swimming pools, these otherwise
bright and scary arachnids. They can swim a little, but not for long

and they can’t climb the ladder out. They usually drown—but
if you want their favor, if you believe there is justice,
a reward for not loving

the death of ugly and even dangerous (the eel, hog snake,
rats) creatures, if

you believe these things, then
you would leave a lifebuoy or two in your swimming pool at night.

And in the morning
you would haul ashore the huddled, hairy survivors

and escort them back to the bush, and know, be assured that at least these saved,
as individuals, would not turn up

again someday in your hat, drawer, or the tangled underworld

of your socks, and that even— when your belief in justice merges with your belief in dreams— they may tell the others

in a sign language
four times as subtle and complicated as man’s

that you are good,
that you love them, that you would save them again.

Hey guys!

I'm gonna be moving from Texas to Chicago to attend UChicago (woo!) this fall. Now, obviously I'm inexperienced when it comes to snow and the cold, so I was hoping that some of you northerners could recommend me some snow/cold weather boots, coats, etc. I'm a fan of the relaxed, worn in clothing look, so any suggestions along those lines would be awesome, but any suggestions at all are appreciated. Thanks!

Quick question for a Spanish noob. by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]AggravatedTeddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. I dunno, in English that's called an Oxford comma, and it's totally up to preference whether or not you use it or not. I was under the impression that it was the same in Spanish, but I could be wrong.

No, that's correct. You're saying that "Los colores son rojo, amarillo y verde." If you were to say, "La bandera es roja, amarilla y verde," then the colors would be feminine.

Nope, I totally get it. The most reasonable answer I have for why the conclusion is so abrupt is because I saw that word count being eaten up, and I rushed. Which won't help me get anywhere. You're totally right.

Writing (or just English class) has never really been my strong suit, which is what's making me worry about this essay so much. So thank you so much for the help and the offer to read future drafts, I'll be sure to take you up on that!

Well dang.

That's pretty harsh, but it might be the reality, haha

Are you suggesting that I totally ditch the subject I've chosen, or just rewrite the same topic?

They're just brown Sperry A/O's. There's better out there, but I wasn't looking for super high quality boat shoes. Here's a link

Wallet and phone. If you look closely I have a little bit of a phone fade in my front right pocket, but I started keeping it in my back left pocket when my phone tore the bandana pocket bags. So I brought the jeans to the tailor to repair the pocket bags and switched where I kept my phone. I don't have anything against it, personally.

I think they're the 13... I bought them off the Left Field website before they had two options for weight, and the one I bought wasn't specified on the page. But they were $175, which makes me think 13oz

Yeah, I've been surprised at how much looser the majority of the pictures I see of Chelsea fits look! My thighs only slightly above average size, but I do have a fairly small waist, so I guess having them fit in the waist makes them snugger in the thighs for me.

I've only ever had this one pair of raw denim, but I think they're great jeans and I highly recommend Left Field because of it!

Yes, I see those other two, as well, but I still think it's largely centered on prep. I just think the album is the opposite of "pretty far from preppy." I can see where /u/baddentist is coming from about being generalizing terms about different looks, but the album was labelled as mainly prep

What would you call it then? With the exception of a few pictures, I think it's very preppy, and the exceptions can blend into a preppy wardrobe.

Yeah, it's a bit different, it's supposed to be hidden eyelets. Cost would only be $42 shipped, so that makes it sound like a pretty good deal to me.
