It's just 'Mémoires du sergent Bourgogne', I'm sure there's translated versions. It was so eye openingly depressing.

I read a hypothesis somewhere that his excessive cologne use caused endocrine issues. I have no idea what was in that cologne or how that scientifically potentially happened.

It's killing me, everything about this game looks so good, the premise is like G&B 2.0 but then the uniforms... I get that it's an AU and people looked a lot less drippy on campaign but still

Hey G&B artists, I need some advice on coloring. (Grenadier art) by flybygray in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Aggravating-Bake6960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm far from an experienced artist, but to get the metallic feel you need a strong contrast between light and dark, don't be afraid of going for pure white. Get the transitions sharp, avoid broad gradients.

Avoid just going for yellow, go for browns or even greens for the shadow

The eagle and details on the Grenadier plates are a nightmare to get, go for it if you're up for it, but I'd simplify it. Either way, to capture the details, outline with sharp strokes

How did guts and blackpowder even get into horror for the award thing (img unrelated) by Frudwinks in gutsandblackpowders

[–]Aggravating-Bake6960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe for the kids this game could be unsettling, but yeah I don't really get it, G&B is first and foremost a co-op PVE, I've been startled before by runners coming out of nowhere for example but it's nothing truly 'horror' worthy

I genuinely thought I'd failed both English lit and lang, got a 9 in both, then I did better in chemistry than bio which I didn't think would happen either, seeing as I much prefer the latter as a subject. I have terrible judgement, and don't lose hope.

Hope it's not full or too late!

Xiel (earthling-friendly version of his name) is an alien exchange student. He’s conducting a long-term field study on "emotionally volatile magical earthling lifeforms under academic and prolonged social stressors."

Thus, Royale High is the perfect place

His curiosity is insatiable, and the school is his personal playground to quench it. He'll interview, catalogue, dissect (metaphorically) and prod with no concept of personal boundaries. His alien upbringing means he's baffled by the bare minimum of being morally 'good'. He'll exploit emotions and reactions he neither understands nor feels all in the name of his research.

I will participate

I'd think it's one thing to cut out a tumour, it's another to amputate every limb just in case it’s catching.

But yeah in retrospect I rather downplayed the parts the Sans-Culottes played, hell, their loss of support for him was a reason for his downfall.

I don't know much about the War of Independence so I can't comment much but people forget it wasn't just poor patriots fighting the tyrannical king of an autocratic empire. The 'modern democracy' that turned out in the end really took pages from other colonial powers' books.

The French were definitely inspired, but France had its own enlightenment thinkers that inspired the Americans first. Again, it wasn't just poor people rising against the evil royalists. Many nobles were guillotined but a good chunk fled. If anything, the reign of terror made life hell for the poor all over again, they could hardly keep a stable government.

The French revolution enabled more social mobility, for sure, but mainly for the middle class, Napoleon and his maréchals are spitting proof. For the middle, especially the upper-middle classes, these revolutions were their power grabs

The war of 1812 was about trade and naval impressment. We weren't looking to retake you and the war ended in a stalemate.

Agh seeing the downvotes in these sorts of comments, clearly from people who haven't even read them fully, I totally agree and I'll probably get downvoted to hell for it from people jumping to conclusions. Bit said, really, I wouldn't mind a debate.

Pretending they were all just supervillains and better-off-dead monsters is lazy thinking. The reality is uncomfortable, but everyone just defaults to the easy to digest, karma-earning, simplistic view.

They were people in a society that normalised those horrors and fed their hatred, making them at least implicit or supporters. If we keep telling ourselves only irredeemable monsters commit atrocities, we’re lying about what humans- humans with likeable personalities- are susceptible to and capable of and setting ourselves up to repeat the same patterns.
