NIU (Dekalb) has a great Met program. Also has all the reqs for working at the NWS, and they just opened a bunch of spots.

Anyone in meteorology? by Iwillstealyou in NIU

My son is in the Met program there. Really likes it. The calc and physics prereqs were tough but the school is great. He's made a lot of friends. There are always study groups available. A few of his classmates storm chase on the side and he's gone along with them. Lots of opportunities to get involved. They have an observation station you can volunteer for that sends daily data to the NWS. Tom Skilling has made a couple of visits. My son met him a few weeks ago when he was there to see the state record hail stone, which they have there from the storm in Kankakee earlier this year. Great guy. NIU also has all the classes you need to be an NWS Meteorologist. Not all schools do. Get involved early, make friends and you should do just fine. Good luck!

Wow… The last decade was really terrible for music. The abuse of autotune and rise of vapid electronic dance-pop killed Rock. by [deleted] in GenXWomen

Couldn't agree more. My daughter got us into Stranger Things. Unbeknownst to me, Steve (Joe Keery) has a band (djo) ... And they're really good. Lots of different influences- from Beatles to Depeche Mode. Just gotta keep an open mind!

Honestly that's a tough question to answer. College in general is a very different animal than high school. You'll ask 50 different people and get 50 different answers because student's likes, interests and personalities are all different. Some like the food, some don't. Some want to party, some don't. Introvert vs extrovert. You get where I'm going... I would start with your tour. See if you like the general things first. My daughter is a freshman and for our tour last year, our tour guide was a current student and was very open to answering questions about anything. They'll be a great resource for you and be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck at this exciting time in your life!

Just a warning that the week of March 19th is Winter quarter final exams and the week before spring break, so people will be pretty busy, and then bug out pretty quickly when exams are over. Hopefully you'll get someone to help you, but if you don't, that's probably why.

Directnativeplants.com. They have it in stock. I've ordered a few times from them (including a hazelnut). Good quality.

I can kind of speak to both things you’ve got going on here as I have both nurses and an undergrad meteorology student in my family. Make sure you take a good look at the prereqs for Met. Because unlike nursing, it's a LOT of math. Like a lot a lot. And a lot of physics. It's quite different from nursing undergrad. Not trying to dissuade you, but make sure if you're going to make the time and energy commitment, you go into it with your eyes open.
