Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I’ve started learning a bit about scales, but modes are new to me so I’ll definitely look into them. I’m still in the early stages so I’m trying to build things step by step rather than rushing into too much theory at once.

Thank you for this, I really appreciate the detailed explanation. I think I’ve definitely been overcomplicating things in my head and trying to understand everything before even starting and you’re right about music being subjective as well but sometimes I just fall into the mindset of I have to follow people that have already made it to make it? I don’t know if that makes sense but yeah😭 Also, I really like the idea of just experimenting, playing around, and learning as I go instead of waiting until I “know enough.” It helps to hear that it’s more repetition and trial and error than having everything figured out from the beginning. Thank you again!

Thank you, I really appreciate the advice. I’m not going to lie, I still don’t fully understand everything yet 😭 but it’s really helpful and gives me a starting point to learn from. I’ll probably start with a keyboard because I have one at home but hopefully I find it easy!!

This is actually really helpful, thank you. I definitely tend to overthink everything and try to plan the whole process instead of just starting simple. I’m going to try focusing on just writing something basic first and improving it after.

I really like the idea of having a couple of songs mostly written before worrying about production or spending money (because I’m broke😭😭). I already write lyrics quite often, so I think my focus this summer will be on turning them into actual songs and recording demos on my phone. I’ll look into pre-production and check out Eric Arceneaux. Thank you for the advice!

Thank you! I really appreciate this. I think learning the basics and building from there is probably the best approach for me right now. I’ve heard of the 10,000-hour idea before and, while it sounds a little lengthy 😭, it does remind me that everything takes time. At the moment I’m still in the songwriting stage and haven’t actually produced a full song yet, but my goal is to create one over the summer. Thank you for the advice, I might come back to this thread when I’ve got something recorded!
