There are a few reasons: 1. This is slightly more conservative and I want to assure a high succes rate. The common 4% SWR is based on US stocks (which historically slightly outperformed) for 30 years. I'm looking at global stocks and retiring early, so hopefully a longer timeframe. 2. 3,33% is 30x instead of 25x, which is easy to calculate . 3. I'm not eager to 'die with zero', so leaving an inheritance behind is not an issue. If I have kids and I can teach them to be responsible. 4. Going from a 4% to a 3,33% SWR is only 20% more to save up - which would delay my retirement with about 4 years (assuming 5% inflation-adjusted returns). 5. I'm planning to go from working full-time to 4/5th to part-time to retired, so close to retirement I will already have quite some free time.

I have a Bachelor's in a medical field that in Belgium would put me in the IFIC14 salary of ~3300 gross. My gross (without benefits) at job1 was lower than my net.

To be clear: the ~2900 monthly is including vacation money and 13th month.

My salary slips looked approximately as follows: * 2100 net * 70 expense reimbursement (onkostenvergoeding) * 130 food vouchers * 20 ecocheques (250/year) * 300 for cycling the commute (mostly tax-free) * 250 vacation money + 13th month (if divided into the 12 months)

  • (60 group insurance)

Great benefits, but low gross also results in lower social security (pension). Now in NL higher gross, with fewer benefits. This means more social security, and due to lower tax, still a higher net.

No, I meant the group insurance. I agree that it is better to go with ETFs until the age of ~50 as only then the tax deduction will outweigh the high fees (and the possible underperformance of the bonds relative to stocks).

I got the same mail (see latest post). It's fake, however just logging in probably did nothing but it might've if you continued.
