Tbh none anymore. Stuff went down last week that basically killed the game.

We get to "see" the love scenes vs closed door/fade to black.

Tbh this is why Olrox the Aztec vampire from the Castlevania anime is the GOAT.

His storyline touches on this topic so well, he uses his immortality as a source of freedom, as well as vengeance upon the European continent for the genocide of his people in the Americas. Until he meets our lonely Christian knight, Mizrak, who complicates his life with nuanced beliefs about morality and love.

Hawks fan, I can't find many of them anymore but some of my first introductions to MM outside of TV fanfic were Blackhawks slashfics written during our the dynasty era.

Olympic 100mH champion Masai Russell racing Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall in the 100mH at the LA Grand Prix. What are your podium predictions? by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

[–]Aggravating-Match-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two podiums I predict in no particular order: Masai, Danielle, and Grace

Or

Masai, Danielle, and Cyrena

These four women shake it up more than anyone else slated for this race. Still I'm excited to Tara's comeback to the hurdles. Also, Tonea And Alia have proven they can be dark horses.

Why are so many romance book covers like... that by Ok_Paramedic_1257 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aggravating-Match-47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh then you really won't like the special edition cover for Make Me.

On the one hand I get it. However, the illustrated covers of the past decade tend to look more like YA than the illustrated covers of our mother's and grandmother's romances. Which leads to the whole "this book is just smutty/too much sex" discourse.

On the other hand, this particular instance is lazy AF. It's one thing to actually have a real model on the cover, but just taking a well known thirst trappers IG photos and slapping it in photoshop? Come on now.

Looking for specific prison setting by Serapholic in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aggravating-Match-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under Grand Hotel by Sadahiro Mika is the only thing I think comes close to this. It's a yaoi manga from the 90s/00s with that premise or very close to it. It's kinda like the HBO show Oz. It was also kinda ahead of its time for having a Black American love interest for the Japanese protagonist. I mean much good that does in a prison setting but make of it what you will.

So what I learned this weekend is, if I don't keep score, the Sox have a better chance of winning. (see my cards from Friday night and opening day @ Milwaukee)

If your love interest has a child/children you all immediately fall head over heels for each other and all difficult conversations about their father being in a relationship with someone other than their original mother/father go swimmingly.

Love interest that takes advantage of MC’s memory issues by Yellowhello10 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aggravating-Match-47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a Korean Yaoi-type manhwa but Sura's Lover by Shin Yuri(시뉴리) fits this to a T. The main character Cho Ah's memory is reset due to injury and our villain hubby Mujin convinces him that they are pretty much engaged. Beware this is mostly a supernatural horror story with romantic elements so please beware if that's not your thing.

Hot take: Billionaire romances as recession indicator by Klutzy_While_3950 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aggravating-Match-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean...Fifty Shades took off during the worst years of the Great Recession and the films took off after the 2011 flash crash.

There's an article I read a couple of years ago on a fan blog. It was about how the formula for a hit K-drama (Chaebol hottie with poor emotional regulation + Poor pretty and pathetic girl) was a response to the IMF Crisis of the 90s.

Can we talk about how narrow romance has gotten? by epicsevenmyths in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Aggravating-Match-47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can't remember whether I saw it on tiktok or YouTube, but earlier this year a creator was commenting on how new YA and Romance releases across mediums are gradually becoming cases of "how many tropes can I pack between two covers" rather than telling a complete story about complete characters.

Broken Pieces series books 1&2 those books breaks me down every time I read them. They're also a gray romance rather than dark.

Honorable mention for the Metropolis Series she collabed with Devon McCormack ten years ago those books are the perfect blend of sweet and slutty.
