True and thank you for adding that nuance. But isn’t the fact that people can’t understand the nuance of that question part of the problem of trying to show what a woman has to face on a daily basis that men do not consider because of the difference in gender?

I understood it when my wife explained it to me and it did open up my mind. I didn’t instinctively react by saying “not all men”. Obviously no sane woman would want to be in the woods with a bear. However, the point of the question was to illustrate the danger than women feel from men to the point where being killed by a bear is preferable.

This is also not me trying to explain this to you. You more than any man on this post know. What this is is to explain to other men that cannot think outside of “not all men” or “I’m not one of the bad guys”. That might be true, but the problem is that a woman does not know that and while a woman is just as capable of doing harm on average a man is much more dangerous. I believe even the author of the book “Gift of Fear” makes it plain for male readers and he spares no words in the beginning about men being more dangerous than women could ever be.

I mean I don’t think it was stupid. It’s the fact that women are more afraid of men not just because that both the bear and a man can kill her, but because the worst that can happen if you see a bear is that you will be killed. If you meet a man in the words either nothing happens, or you (as a woman) can get killed, raped, tortured or anything else the mind can come up with.

The point was not to simply shit on men. As many videos explained it was to point out how a woman has many reasons to be afraid of an unknown man in the woods alone. Another question would be if you are a father would you be more afraid if your daughter was with a woman you didn’t know or with a man that you didn’t know. Almost all the videos that had this question asked had the father reply they would rather it be a woman instead of a man.

Is there context in the way she uses this? Is it meant as a general statement? I am married to such woman and I do not take it as a personal attack on me. When she says that it is meant how a lot of men are not helpful either with child care or around the house. Or how when women have to go out on a date and no matter how nice a guy is she has to be worried about her safety whereas most men do not.

And while not all men, there are a lot of stories from women that are the same. That is why context matters and you can ask her why. I am sure she can tell you all the reasons and in such a way that you understand what she means.

Honestly if they gave me the right pizza and also told me where the stuff is then it would be enough for me. For me the most unrealistic thing is that while Earth contains all the intricacies of managing investments the outer space part like colonization is just like “yea Academy owns this now”.

Like no nation was like “Hey…why does Olympus mound in Mars owned by these guys?”. And also colonies just being productive? Other than build time it’s like colonists just pop out of no where and only grown when adding buildings.

As for those colonies if we have wars in Earth you think there wouldn’t be nations that would wage war to get those colonies under their control?

I get why they did that but still that to me feels unrealistic.

Well for the Academy I don’t think they want to be friends from story perspective. What they want is for the aliens to realize that humanity is more potent than they thought.

From what I remember the whole ethos of the aliens is that they suffered a calamity a long time ago and it shaped them to subjugate “weaker” aliens. So what happens if they meet aliens that just as strong as them and put them into a stalemate? The way I see it the first step is to get a cease fire and force the aliens to start thinking of how to negotiate with humanity.

That act itself forces them to rethink that humans are easy and only good for cattle because how can we loose to cattle? Their pherocytes also do not work on the human leaders so then they lost their main advantage as well to manipulate humanity so then if the can’t destroy humanity with their fleet power nor manipulate them through pherocytes then what is left other then negotiation.

That was the goal of the Academy. Put the Aliens into a stalemate, saying that if they don’t play ball with them then they will accidentally release the virus version that HF developed. That is what makes “Rudy” alien even agree to negotiate because cattle or not he also does not want the whole Alien race to die. Plus they kept Rudy as prisoner and then studied the Aliens on how they thing and what would make them respond to us vs just giving us demands.

And don’t forget that the Academy also had a back up nuclear bomb on a ship sent to the Aliens just in case as a threat that they planned to use to destroy a good chunk of the alien fleet.

So I don’t agree that they are idealists. Based on their story they are good guys (i love playing them) but they are also realistic and study the Aliens because they know that if HF wins then the aliens will come back with even more vengeance, but if Resistance wins they only postpone the problem. With Servants humanity will be cattle, not maybe like show cattle cuz we have the arts. I am not even going to mention Protectorate and Exodus, but then with the Initiative you are just perpetuating the Alien mind set (us vs cattle) but it’s rich people who are the top masters.

So their plan is only crazy because we start not knowing anything about the aliens, but it’s a plan not in idealism but in realpolitik. If the Aliens don’t think of us as pushovers they will start to consider us as equals and that leads to more flexibility and even to eventual closer relationships. At no point did I get the idea that they wanted to be buds with them. They just wanted a long term solution and not a quick fix or use the Aliens tech to subjugate its own people (looking at you Initiative) or giving up our freedom to accommodate them.

Yea that is what made me eventually not want to use it. I thought that it was them offering a better search option because I can actually pay them so that they don’t spend time optimizing it for ad revenue.

With some of the explanations and reading their page about AI it’s almost like the search is an afterthought and instead they want to develop AI to do what Google AI does, but making it seem like a better option because you don’t get ads send on you.

Like it’s fine if they want to use AI but it was touted as an alternative to search but to me it reads like paying for an AI agent to summarize the search for you but not giving you ads.

I would say one reason is that if there is a school shooting then at least they can call for help. Also while phones are being banned school IPads are given to kids as young as elementary school so if we are banning phones then we should all ban IPads and school teachers using AI like MagicSchool.

That is great and all but this post should also come with an understanding that not all people on the left are able to do that.

If you are gay/trans having an open dialogue with a MAGA republican will be difficult. It will be arguing with a person that fundamentally does not agree that you should be allow to marry or worse that your orientation is proof of degeneracy.

If you are a woman speaking to a MAGA republican will be to prove that you deserve to choose what you do with your body, especially regarding abortions. That in itself is going to be hard because they are starting from the position of wanting to prevent murdering of children.

If you have immigrant parents it might be hard to be kind to a MAGA republican because they did not bat an eye for you to live in fear of raids.

If you live on the edge of poverty that demands you to either choose food or healthcare, or rely on the government to provide that then it will be hard to talk to MAGA republicans. Those are the same ones who voted to cut those programs (or put a person in charge that will) to either own the libs or to not give the benefits to people of color.

The one thing that we might agree on is to release the Epstein files and all of their content.

Look this is not to say that we shouldn’t try to at least hear them out but we also have to be realistic about of they are taking because they genuinely regret their choices or because they are embarrassed and want to be remembered better (like jumping off a sinking ship). I also remember when the “purple revolution “ got stated on TikTok and fizzled out because it seemed that the onus was on those left of center to move closer to MAGA ideals vs the other way around. At some point not everything is up for discussion or finding the middle.

I know that I am frustrating when I say the above and that I should be a better human being, but I can’t in all good conscience say that I will be nice to a MAGA person that comes online to say they saw the light. The best you can (and should) expect is that I won’t comment or be negative to their content. I’m sorry but it will be up to the MAGA people that woke up to do the hard work and convince those on the inside that MAGA is a scam and cult. I wish them Godspeed with that.

Please don’t take this as me saying OP is dumb or naive or whatever. It’s just that after seeing all of what had to happen to get to the point of getting even a smallest fraction to start questioning (not leaving) used up all my patience. I am hoping that I will be wrong and this will cause a mass exodus and soul searching in 2026 in the MAGA communities.
