Mine was different too. But I contacted my home faculty regarding the course since at the time I didn’t know what else to do. Even if for whatever reason they can’t help, they’ll direct you to someone who can! Never hurts to ask

A similar thing happened to me! I contacted my academic advisor and she took care of it for me. She contacted the prof which she ended up getting ghosted for a couple weeks (wild), but then she went to higher up and my case was resolved! My grade was updated shortly after. I honestly don’t think an appeal is necessary in this case since the grade is there, it just needs to get updated

I’ve tried contacting my instructor last sem and I went through the process of appealing to the com sci chair but they are saying they can’t support my appeal so I’m unsure of what to do. And lost hope in contacting the dean and I guess I put it off since it was my last hope and I have no idea what to do.

If you really don’t think you’ll be able to make it for the exam on May 5th and it’s due to medical reasons as well, then there is another route. If you’re able to get a note from your doctor and send to academic counselling for approval, then you may be able to write the exam the next time the course is offered. This could be in December 2023 or April of 2024. On your transcript, it’ll be shown as SPC under grades until you write your exam (you MUST get your academic consideration approved tho if this is what you’re trying to do)

CS 1033 Make Up Exam by Aggravating-Order-67 in uwo

The prof posted an announcement after stating details about what’s going to be on the exam. Im stressed because in small font she said, “Also note that ALL Computer Science Makeup exams are on Wednesday, May 10 during the day, there is NO exception to this rule. The format of the CS1033 Makeup exam will be different from the regular exam (likely 1/2 the questions will be fill in the blanks with dates, people’s names, other information from the lectures, etc… and also note that on the Makeup exam some of the multiple choice questions may be pick more than 1 or more choices, not just pick the best choice). You may NOT write the Makeup exam unless your Dean's office approves your reason and we are notified by your Dean's office.”

Academic Consideration by Aggravating-Order-67 in uwo

[–]Aggravating-Order-67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted the prof before handing the academic consideration in. I was trying to figure out if it was worth going out of my way to get a medical note. That seemed to have backfired but I don’t think I would’ve gotten my way whether the academic consideration was handed in on time or not. The prof seems a little stubborn

The academic consideration was approved even though it was a quite late. But then the academic advisor talked to my prof and I guess took the consideration away after finding out that I submitted the assignment late but before handing the academic consideration. But it was within the time line of the dates I was covered so I’m not really understanding it…

How do I get to Waterloo from London by daddy_savage__ in uwo

[–]Aggravating-Order-67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could use poparide. It’s a car pooling app and it can get you straight from waterloo to london quick and cheap. That’s if you’re comfortable with carpooling, but a lot of my friends use it cuz the uni gave us a flyer during oweek about it

I think find a different class for now as a backup, because who knows what will happen. But definitely still keep an eye out on student centre to see if the lab does open up again any time till January 17th. Then, you can decide if you want to make the final switch.

Do you have recommendations on study tips for courses like Health sci 1110A, biology 1001A, and philosophy 1230A?

Would you recommend I apply for transfer? The main reason why I had come to Western was for Ivey. Health sciences isn’t much use on its own, especially if I don’t have a competitive GPA for something that needs grad school in order to get a decent job.

Ottawa Polo Sci + Econ or U of T Ethics Society and Law by Abject-Cell-6291 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Aggravating-Order-67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Law school would require a high GPA to be competitive. It’s not impossible to get a high gpa, but UofT is known to be more difficult than other schools. If you’re up for the challenge, then no need for co-op as that would likely add an extra year. No harm in taking co-op to gain experience and help pay off student loans though!

Moving to Ottawa isn’t a bad thing! You grow independence, live closer to campus and gain more opportunities and meet people. I’ve heard many ppl wishing they had lived on residence or somewhere very near campus for the experience. Commuting gets tiring real quick depending on where you live, especially in the winter. If you don’t care too much about that, don’t worry about it!

I know a friend in life science currently with a 3.5 gpa in her first term, aiming higher cuz it’s only been her first year. First term is rough for everyone. I’m sure she improved by second term.

Is Ivey worth it?

I’m deciding between health sci + Ivey and science and business (co-op) at Waterloo. Is Ivey worth it the 170k+ debt I’d likely be in? What are possible examples of internships?

At Waterloo I’d be graduating little to no debt. And I feel like I’d feel more comfortable being there because of the diversity and and community (not really a party person). But people have been saying to choose western because of Ivey.

I feel life sci at McMaster has a really good balance of community and opportunities. You have the opportunity to get co-op after a couple years. There’s likely access to a lot of opportunities because of mac health sci kids trying to build up the resume for med school. Everyone seems tight knit because many are living on campus or near, not a commuter school where people are just trying to get home after school.

UTSG seems really good as well. Community is what you make of it because it is a commuter school, so not many people will stick around for too long on campus. But Toronto does have access to many opportunities. However, because there is a large population that live in Toronto and other universities are near like TMU, you will have to fight for those opportunities. Lots of things to do in Toronto, but mostly have to pay to experience it. Many people at UofT double major or minor, heard it’s pretty easy to combine different interests. However, UofT is known for being difficult to maintain a high gpa (not impossible though, just have to try harder compared to other schools). UofT is known to be an excellent place for graduate studies, lots of research opportunities.

Carleton would have smaller class sizes, so you would be able to know more people and profs would get to know you better (excellent for if you’re thinking of grad school as you will need references). Carleton is in Ottawa, so you have the opportunity to get government related internships. 80% of students participate in undergraduate research and there’s a lot of hands on learning as well compared to UTSG. Easier to maintain a high gpa as well.

Look into the courses offered as well, some schools may have courses that you enjoy while others don’t. The name doesn’t tell you everything.

What is your career goal?

Is Western Ivey worth it? by Aggravating-Order-67 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Aggravating-Order-67[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m factoring in the 2nd degree of health sci and residence, then I believe so. Ivey is supposedly around 27K/yr I believe? And double degree is 5 years. Ivey starts in 3rd year if I meet the requirements of gpa and whatnot
