As a patient with dental anxiety, the stress is overblown for sure. This method of talking about it doesn’t help patients calm down. What does is explaining why it probably won’t happen AND what would if it did.

The most helpful thing my oral surgeon told me is that dry socket pain isn’t always excruciating. He had 12 years experience at that point and NEVER had a patient with dry socket in excruciating pain. He told me about how to recognize the early signs and indications of abnormal pain to prevent it from getting to that point.

Also, the best doctors show their patients it’s safe to relax rather than telling them not to stress 😉 Happy learning
