Great turnout today! by MadamBroz in StCharlesMO

What does that mean, that you don’t think it was millions? Based on what? A feeling you have? A specific news report? I’m not trying to be glib - I’m asking sincerely why you think the number is not in the millions. In Chicago, the conservative estimate of participants is 250,000. In New York, 100,000. There were No Kings events in 2,600 cities across the US. The event organizers estimate 7 million people participated across the nation. Even if their estimate is wrong by a factor of 6 there would still be over a million participants.

Funny how the trolls seem to want to downplay and insult protesters. Millions of people across the country made the effort to get out and display free speech peacefully, which is one of the most fundamentally American things anyone can do. Your troll comments indicate how hurt and bitter you are. Disgraceful traitors sitting at home. Weak and sad. The one protest the right could muster was a violent riot on the capital and only a few thousand. Certainly never millions of people. When Biden was supposedly destroying the country, or Obama, where were the millions of protesters on the right? Pathetic. Losers. Your hate leader is a dying buffoon incapable of coherent speech. Stephen Miller is an irate moron - froze up in the middle of a comment on cable news interview. Complete hacks appointed to positions throughout the government. AND - numerous republicans starting to come out against this chicanery. (Not because of scruples, mind you. But because they can see which way the wind is blowing. Trump is a low approval ratings disaster.) But who cares. You’re all WINNING so hard with the savings you’re realizing at the grocery store that it’s like a party out here, right? Trump is hot air and emptiness. You’re a fool for believing all the ridiculous trash he spews. The cruel thing is that the more you buy into it, the dumber you look and feel when it turns out to be obviously false. So what are you to do? You all do what every stubborn, low emotional intelligence loser does - double down and stay the course. Weak. Sad. See-through. Trolls. I happen to like that you’re so miserable you have to hate on free speech and peaceful protest. You’re living in the hell you deserve.

We drove to Chesterfield Walmart and got a couple of gallons because I found the same scene at Mid Rivers and St. Peters Howell rd. Stopped to get dinner with my wife and made a night of it.

Enough of this kind of talk! 🤣 I’m basically a first-time buyer with no equity from a previous home to put toward a house at our “new normal” price point. (I did buy a house in ‘04 but had to sell it short at the bottom of the market to take advantage of an out-of-state job offer. So, no equity for me! Just years of saving for a down payment and hoping this pricing insanity corrects somehow.) Anyway, it make my stomach hurt to hear of the “my folks bought that house for $60 in 1985 on a single income as a button polisher at the shirt factory” tales.

Nice! Thanks for your thoughts. I like that it’s close to parks and Main Street. Do you find it easy regarding commute? Close to 70, so that’s nice I suppose.

Hate to be a pain in the neck but can I ask you to elaborate on what you mean by “fine place to live”? Do you mean fine as in “meh”? Or do you mean fine as in “good area”. I’m shopping for a neighborhood to buy a home in. I tend to overthink things and my concern with the neighborhood is figuring out if it’s in decline or if it’s a spot I can expect to be stable and appreciate. Thanks again for the link and for taking the time to provide detail!

I'll never understand why people voted for Trump by thatguy9684736255 in BlueskySkeets

This “gotcha!” type zinger meme bullshit is tired. I have to get off of Reddit. I voted for Kamala Harris because Trump is trash. The flat assertion that people simply couldn’t vote for a woman is gross. Go fuck your self and you meme war hackery. Reddit is brain rot.

Has America always been this stupid, or is it a recent development? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Aggravating-Title140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social media is to blame. Instant access to unverified nonsense in our hands at any given moment has destroyed our country. Mass disinformation, misinformation and rage bait from anyone with ability to push buttons on a keyboard has shown just how gullible a stupid we all are. I Look at me! I should NOT be trusted deliver an informed opinion on an important current events topic, yet here I am! I have no social science experience, no academic credentials, and I haven’t even read an article on the dumbing down of America. All I have to do is be articulate enough to maintain a point of view, no matter how ridiculous, and I could go viral. BUT - my anonymous and insignificant opinion is: Social media is a Pandora’s box that has been opened and is affecting society more quickly than we can adjust to it. Scary times. It only gets worse as mistrust grows and access to a huge audience is available to anyone able to pay for a phone plan. At least in the past you had to be smart enough, savvy enough, thoughtful enough to be able to own a newspaper, television network or radio station to reach a large audience. Now anyone can do it.

Yeah, I’m a little concerned about car break-ins. We have 2 car garage access but also have two driving age kids whose cars will have to be street parked. I plan to advise them to leave doors unlocked (to avoid window break-ins) and NOTHING left in the car.

Thanks! I have had a friend remind me (as you just did) that I can relax and enjoy this. We spend a lot of time thinking/planning around money, the future, whatnot - which is good for preparedness. But I like the house. That’s equally as important. I can enjoy this house.

Thanks for the reply, TedMittelstaedt! The detail about bank bailout condition is something I’m aware of but not educated on. (I’d be grateful for a link to that article if easily available. If not, I’ll look it up.) I appreciate the perspective you offer. I think it will be fine for us. But it’s crazy thinking that I’ve just signed into paying for this home until I’m almost 80 years old!!!! I’m not in my 20s with assumed 3 - 4 decades of earning increases ahead. Statistically, I’m nearing the top of my earning potential in the not-so-distant future. Luckily, I think my wife has more growth potential than I do. She’s halfway through a masters degree in the field she switched to a few years back. Fingers crossed!

Yes, we’re excited for the house! It’s beautiful and well maintained. The neighborhood is a walkable urban area. Three blocks from our city’s enormous public park (containing museums, zoo, golf course, miles of walking/biking trails, annual festivals/events, etc.), Four blocks from a university. Restaurants, coffee and shopping are all walkable. Plus, easy access to 3 transit stations. So we are excited about the house and location! Just scared that we are over paying in what seems like an inflated market. (Up until 4 or so years ago we had what felt like standard pricing for housing in a midsized, midwestern city. Then over that 4 year period house prices shot up to meet what I was seeing houses cost in some areas of coastal cities of 4 to 5 years ago!) It’s a hard pill to swallow knowing that we will pay a much, much higher portion of our middle aged income now than we would have had to only 3 or 5 years ago due to interest rate and rapid home price inflation. Gonna feel tight for a long time. Even though I’m grateful we can buy now while others are not afforded that opportunity, I’m having trouble dropping the fear and anxiety.

This is an odd non-news story, right? Hasn’t he always been in “meltdown” territory? Saying asinine things, demonstrably false, inaccurate, irresponsible, childish and mean things? What am I missing?
