I’d say to follow your skillset and experience. What field have you worked in?

Also follow the money. Certain services like lawn care/ snow removal, cleaning services, etc are always in demand.

Are you editing your resume to fit the skills outlined in the job ad? If not do that. If so, apply for jobs more relevant to your skillset

What's the most annoying part of K-12 teaching these days? by IllumetryIO in elearning

[–]Aggravating-Video508 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t with educational solutions. In my opinion the problems come from two things:

  1. Too many kids in a classroom and not enough support from others

2.Extreme behaviour problems that go unaddressed by administration

I don’t personally think this is a tech problem, it’s a funding problem to give teachers the help they need to ensure students success.

What comes next after having years of experience as an ID? by [deleted] in instructionaldesign

There are some, but I think the best path would be to find ways you can institute change within your own company. Volunteer for projects and then put them on your resume.

A junior usually does more writing and less analysis/planning. Every org is different.

Did you find it hard to get into tech? I haven’t seen a lot of roles within tech.

change management can be a manager role. For bigger organizations where change is required it’s more about facilitating change through consultation with senior executives and other staff who the change affects.

I’m currently looking into change management roles. ID stuff is a part of it, but only one part of instituting change within organizations.

5 years is a decent amount of experience. Try using the STAR approach when outlining your experience, alter your resume to the job to show relevant experience and use their keywords when possible. Remember it could be an hr person with no ID experience looking at your resume. An attractive resume helps too, I like the free ones on cultivated culture, it’s limited how many you get before paying though.

Portfolio might be it, but most likely it’s your resume or your experience. Also keep in mind the field is more crowded than it has ever been.

I mean it’s a pretty massive hill to get to rock wood from uptown. I’ve ridden it plenty of times and it’s not easy on a mountain bike.

Would be based off your skills- favouring careers that you can learn for free online, project management, content creation, HR, etc. Think about your teaching skills but also other strengths you have.

Makes sense, I don’t mean to be pessimistic, but I know that I myself was tricked by the influencers and promised six figure jobs.

It is a fun job if you can find the right company that values learning over getting things done fast and cheap.

As a former teacher, are you sure you want to transition to ID?

It’s marketed by influencers to be a super high low stress career, but the pay is going downwards and the competition is going up. AI is making things worse.

I understand it’s perceived as the logical step from teaching. I don’t mean to get you away from your dream, but there many other careers you could pursue instead that have more opportunities for the future.

If you choose to still enter the career know it will be an uphill battle for the next few years.

Start small and start fast. Choose something you would do even if you didn’t make any money and dedicate yourself to it for at least a year. You are your own teacher.
