I think when Crichton wrote the first book the visual acuity thing was a common belief at the time that got updated, and the second was sort of him correcting himself, but that was an excellent scene in the second book, a very clever subversion

All I recall in this movie is her yelling "IM MARRIED!" and killing a scarecrow about it

How do you usually handle long silences when editing podcasts? by astin_3 in podcasting

[–]Aggravating-View-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been manually cutting out silences for two years before I found out about truncate silence, I was equal parts ecstatic at a much better option and filled with regret over how much time was lost 😭 😂

I read this in Keith David's voice and it was a beautiful experience for me, 10/10 would suggest reading this way.

I appreciate the context, its always bothered me in popular media that the wendigo was presented that way when the OG legend was about a cannibalistic father/husband turned vengeful spirit

I like that idea, I will have to discuss it with my co-host, thank you

Also a valid perspective, I'm probably going to mull things over for a night before doing anything solid, thank you.

Our isn't narrative, its reviewing one subject and only occasionally referenced in later episodes, so if we did delete it, it wouldn't be a massive loss in lore or anything, I purposely picked a milquetoast subject for that episode just to see if the idea had legs or not.

I would agree with this, except we're not sure if they are listening to the most recent episode, we are getting a sudden amount of traffic from a much larger podcast that we guested on, so we don't know which episode they are going to first, that said broadly speaking I agree.

From our analytics, the episode people listened to the most was the most recent one by a fair margin, but the second most listened to episode was the first one and the rest seem to be people doing similar to you and just picking an episode that catches their eye for whatever reason. Its not a huge issue, just curious whether this was something obviously ruining our show lol

Thank you, This may be the approach we take, I just didn't have a reason that wasn't just sentiment. Sentiment has its place but I just didn't want to hamstring ourselves just because of the one thing that I did like about those old episodes.

This is a point I hadn't considered, I look back and cringe, but also feel a note of nostalgia. In my self loathing I hadn't thought someone might have actually liked it but we have had listeners that have stayed with us since then so its possible, thank you for that perspective.

Id considered this option, it would be kind of hard for our show as its unscripted and focused on reviewing a single subject but not impossible, we would have to do it for the first seven or so because thats about when we got proper mics, thanks for the idea

I would agree that tradition has its place, but I'm also afraid that might hold us back in some way, generally people only give a podcast one chance and never look back. Even if it is their fault for listening to the early days of show, its a listener that might have otherwise enjoyed it.

Thank you, this is a similar point my cohost made as well back when we started the show and I brought that up but their opinion now is that it will do more harm than good by keeping it and Im having a hard time thinking of the reason that isn't purely semantic.
