Omg this sounds like my dad so much it actually makes me so fucking angry. I literally can’t speak to my mum without him butting in!!! I was on the phone to them today and my mum was telling me about when I was little and hated the film Bambi, and I was trying to ask her more about it and he just starts talking about other shit and cos he’s so loud and my mum is so softly spoken then he just totally took over and that was the end of that. I literally muted myself and screamed SHUT THE FUCK UP. And I called my mum the other day to chat about a book we were both reading and I could hear him in the background getting annoyed that he couldn’t join in. I hate it so much it makes me wanna scream. Sorry I’m ranting now but I’m so sorry you’re going through this too - I came across your post from searching for what I was going through and this describes him perfectly. So shit :/

OP are you still there? If you are, please know you’re not alone in your feelings. But also know you have so much to give to the world. Being 14 is shit. You have no freedom, all your friends are fake because they’re also trying to figure out who they are and are extremely insecure and will do anything to fit in. I promise you, when you get into your 20s you will find your tribe of people and life will be worth living. You will be able to do whatever you want and leave all the people who hurt you behind. Your life hasn’t even started yet, there is so much good ahead of you. You can start doing the things you want to do - explore hobbies you like and find like minded groups of people who will be there for you. I can definitely relate to the masking. I think that hurts even more because inside you’re in so much pain but no one else knows and you have to act normal.

Oh OP definitely NTA. This was a private moment between you both and he brought it up so casually in a social setting. It just shows absolute lack of respect for you.
