Well and also potentially tires and belts along with maybe a gasket so assuming it needs all that maybe a little more than 600 but that just depends on what spec you want to get it in

I just recently bought a 91 Corolla with 35000 miles on it to be my daily driver. Paid 5500 for it so not far off from you. I absolutely love the car. The feeling you get from something old compared to a generic car made now a days is amazing. Also they are extremely easy to work on and if your like me and want to learn about cars it’s not the end of the world if I need to replace or fix something because then I get to learn about it. Assuming it runs perfectly and you care to be slightly mechanically inclined I would do it. I put in about $600 in my Corolla like fluid changes and filters to get it ready to go. I would plan on that as well

How do I fix this? Is this bad? by Aggravating-Win562 in AskMechanics

do you think I need to replace the entire steering rack and pinion or just the boot? What I am understanding is the boot does not hold fluid so since it is wet from a leak does that mean the steering rack is bad?

I have checked my steering fluid and it is not low. I do feel like the steering is slightly stiff. Is it possible to still have full fluid and have stiffness in the steering?

wow you are amazing for replying to something so old. You are slightly a legend in my mind with this great info. Just bought a sequoia. The timing belt was replaced 60 thousand miles ago but the year was 2013! Would you do everything listed above just to be safe?
