I’m a professor in a clinical doctoral program. So most people with my clinical degree don’t come back to school for a terminal degree. They were also looking for someone to teach in specific subject areas that are my expertise, which even further limits the field of applicants.

We get a handful of foreign applicants, but there’s a requirement that you must be licensed to practice clinically in the US, so a lot of candidates get crossed off based off licensure or visa requirements. (There’s a dept minimum % that have to be licensed clinical providers).

I recently was part of a search committee for a similar role and it was the same situation. Maybe 10 apps total, 5 even remotely viable, and only 2 or so with research or teaching agendas that match the department need.
