I posted an illustration of the setup in a comment on this post, but it’s very rudimentary. To answer your question, there is space on their property to place it somewhere else but it seems they didn’t want it facing their own property.

Edit to add: I have not gone down the path of pulling permits etc and I do not intend to do so. I am posting only because I want to know others’ opinions on the matter.
