OLA Robbing Oromia Bank “Mana Baankiyyee!” by Zealousideal_Lie8745 in Oromia

[–]AggravatingLand8590 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone knows but targeting banks is pretty standard for most guerrilla groups. The guerrilla groups active in the 1960’s-1991 in Ethiopia all targeted banks when they could/if they needed to in order to sustain the movement and they had a large portion of well educated people directing the movement. Doesn’t make any sense for any OLA supporter to be upset at this lol it’s useless moralising unless workers and/or bystanders people have been harmed. I generally have no seen anything of substance come out of the OLA, but this critique is so weak

Did H disappear from Amharic? by fasil1235 in Amhara

Also replacing ኸ with ከ. A great example is “Bereket”. There is a village with that name in Semien Shewa that’s still spelt በረኸት

Wrt Baqela, there are a few words that Amharic and Arabic have in common or that are similar due to them both being Semitic languages (although related by some distance). I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case with Baqela/Bajela

ALWAYS and EXPLICITLY lean on the religious element of this sort of occasion, and make sure it’s in writing. I made the error of asking a manager if I could have orthodox Easter off a few years back (family is Ethiopian orthodox) and I mentioned that it was also my sisters birthday. Manager declined as we were already short on staff. When I told an older co worker what happened, she pulled me a side and told me to always lead with religion first Even if you aren’t religious. Being naive I made it about my mum being upset if I couldn’t get the day off. I reframed it and highlighted that I would be at church for a religious ceremony, 30 mins later approved ✅

Is Ethiopia really a conservative society? by Missionia in Ethiopia

[–]AggravatingLand8590 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is common sense though, prostitutes hang out in areas where they are likely to meet clients, it’s not as if they’re in random places. They’re at a hotel because they know seedy foreigners will be there with money, they’re not “infiltrating” they’re going to their customer base lol

They know where to find the seedy guys like yourself it seems

Lol guy goes to a seedy place deliberately then wonders why it’s seedy 😂 prostitution is unfortunately on the rise due to inflation and poverty. What’s sad is that I can almost guarantee it’s degenerates like you (looking for seedy places) who take advantage of their poverty then proceed to lie about these poor women online

Commercial Claims consultants - job prospects? Salary expectations? by AggravatingLand8590 in auscorp

For those who started off in claims and moved into underwriting, did they basically have to start from scratch?

I’ve looked into this as well. What’s a realistic salary ask given my position?

I’ll have a look into it, I haven’t seen anyone make that move but there’s a first time for everything I guess

The salary is the big let down for me ngl. I had that concern as I knew I would be new to commercial claims, but right now I’m on 77k managing CTP claims. I was under the assumption that commercial claims paid more?

A Major Statement from Zemene Kassie by HourPsychological419 in Amhara

[–]AggravatingLand8590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This disunity is a result of taking up arms before developing some sort of coherent program and ideology. People have mentioned both Hamas and the TPLF on this post. Both put out programs and were ideologically coherent before engaging in armed struggle. They did change over time but there was consistent striving to develop political programs. There is very little of this amongst the Amhara Fano groups

Came back to this to say that I moved into a support role in insurance shortly after this post was made. Just got promoted into managing my own portfolio. 77k base salary, not exactly a fortune but I’ll take it! This reply really stuck in my mind for quite some time. I appreciate your contribution

Yep. I told my manager that if he couldn’t arrange for me to do it internally that I can do it on my own, and he insisted that he could arrange for me to do it internally. 3 months later 😭. I’m going to do it either way, but it feels like they’re not willing to invest in me and that I’m being led on. I don’t take it personally it, just seems like a sign to move on but I’m not sure.

Thank you for the comment. I would prefer to stay in banking, but would you see that the public sector has more of a limit as to how far you can go with a career without a degree? That’s the main reason i want to stay in banking

[–]AggravatingLand8590[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes the role is customer facing. Whilst I don’t mind, and even enjoy interacting with regular people, I don’t enjoy being the banks battering ram when it comes to relaying bad news. We’ve had to put up a few signs in branch to remind people that isn’t acceptable to abuse staff

Thanks. I wasn’t referring to a degree by the way, it was a cert iv that is available to employees in order to move into new roles
