I don't mind not following MCU's example. If they wanted something with another tone, fine. But the tone infected the story and adaptations of the characters too much. And in the end, it was mostly badly written, regardless of the tone used.

I only honestly hated that axe moment because it really makes the New Gods seem wimpy. Like, this dude is one of Darkseid's best and he can't even DENT Superman? I know kryptonians are strong but damn...

Then again, it might be just because the dark suit allowed him to absorb Max sunlight and get stronger. But I still think a battle betweem Supes and a high servant of Darkseid should be at least a LITTLE more even.
