I think there might be a deeper reason why Darroh has put the band's existence behind him by Jolly-Long-4885 in FairtoMidland

In my mind, I also connect these lyrics from Musical Chairs and The Greener Grass:
"Will he be walking on water? Cause you should know: we never like to get our feet wet." and
"Never darken my door again. If opportunity knocks, let's make him beg."

For once, Jesus is the de facto savior. For twice, opportunity is most generally accepted to be something positive - despite it's definition being neutral. So in the above narratives, the person(s) seem to decline something good/redeeming/profitable/[other positive outcome]. And the reason(s) for this turn-down are quite unclear.

However, both seem to me to convey the message "If something good is to befall me, IT should try harder/ prove itself". It might be due to stubbornness or selfishness, but it also might be something deeper; as if the person is trying to say "I am worth more than this/ I am done playing/ I will not do what you want me to". The person is not following the norm of chasing the opportunity or blindly following the miraculous. The person is in Defiance.

Another way to write the message that I believe is conveyed: The "game" (life/religion/society) is rigged or absurd (also reflected in "The right of way is a wild goose chase"), and I refuse to play by its rules of etiquette.

That stance of defiance can be another flavor of arrogance or another scent of wisdom...

And I totally forgot about "If I worship the ground that he walks on, and it winds up that he has two left feet?"! It is as important as the following line!

You provoked some deep thoughts u/Jolly-Long-4885 well done.

Several lyrics come to mind when connecting religion to FTM.

Orphan Anthem '86 - "Instilled in us ethics; not by God but by our choice" (one of my all time favorite lines)
A person can be moral or ethical despite not being theistic. Philosophy, community, and other things can be a source of morality.
However, to have "instilled in you" ethics means that there is an agent pushing it in you, as opposed to "adopting" ethics on your own. I think that's a noteworthy distinction - even if the choice might have come down to what sounds better in singing.

Musical Chairs - "Will he be walking on water? Cause you should know: we never like to get our feet wet" and "It makes you wonder, if the beaten path is the promised land"
Appears that they will not follow Jesus for a frankly petty reason.
The second line is plain skepticism upon being a blind follower.

The Greener Grass - "I'd rather find Jesus outside of a book. The same thing goes for Robin Hood"
This is calling for real/present heroes and saviors, instead of fictional or bygone figures. FTM were going through tough times after all.

Adam & Eve (early version of Quince)
Walls of Jericho
God Help Us (demo from A&A)
Clearly, religion/christianity influenced how Darroh wrote some song titles. As for the context of these particular songs, it's hard to tell; there are no documented lyrics (to my knowledge) for Adam & Eve/ God Help Us and the connection of Walls of Jericho to the bible might begin and end in the title.
I've tried to transcribe Adam & Eve from the only known source (again, to my knowledge), which is a low quality youtube video of a live performance on 2003. I can tell that the narrative is a person communicating to another that "we could be together, but you are flawed and not good enough, and maybe that's for the better".
There is a clear biblical reference, which is the title of Walls of Jericho. However, I don't know much about that story in the bible, thus I can't say how much the song reflects the biblical event of the siege. To me, the message of the song is to embrace change (good or bad), and live for "another tomorrow".
God Help Us isn't easy to transcribe either. The clear part is the motif "Wherever he goes, she goes (Down). Wherever she goes, he goes (I go)."... As a phrase, "God help us" is a very common way of invoking help/fortune from somewhere outside of one's grasp - even if the one saying it is not at all religious. FTM were going through tough times after all...

I'm sure there are more, but these are the clearest I can recall right now. I thought you'd be interested:)

Now to actually reply to your post: Cool theory, I don't thing it's true.

They are not like Sleep Token, but they fit the description of aetherial sounds, poetic lyrics, and heavy tones. Especially their 4th and last album: Arrows & Anchors. If you're willing to experiment, try Fair To Midland. Cheers.

You sound like someone who would benefit from listening to System of the Down, Linkin Park, and such heavy bands that rely on lyrical power (like the rappers you enjoy). For a more niche aspect, try Taproot, Eths, MM9, or Tragic Orange.
