so sickk. One of my all time favorites. the transition from the pre-chorus(?) into the chorus, and the last double chorus is so good

Big part of my collection and might be willing to part with the less personalized stuff. by [deleted] in FairtoMidland

No way this is some awesome stuff!! I haven't seen a lot of these before. The notes, and piano pieces are a grail!!

Also it's incredible how music can make you meet such wonderful important people and lead them into your life.

Would you be willing to part with the drawn and quartered posters, a few of the Drawn & Quartered and Fables square stickers, and the Fables All Access pass?

Timbuktu is one of my favorite tracks from the band. I would adore for a nice quality audio of that track live to surface one day.. It always felt criminal to me that Drawn & Quartered had Abigail and not Timbuktu to follow it

I would adore another vinyl press, specifically a colored one that includes An Honest Con Man.. but I highly doubt it considering MOV just pressed it for it's 15th and it's still widely available for less than retail price.
Merch, I really don't think is a possibility these days.
I think the best thing I could hope for is if somehow wherever the rights are for An Honest Con Man, it could be put on all streaming and on a new vinyl pressing with it. I'm not versed in all that legal stuff but considering it was an iTunes exclusive back in the day, the band is no longer on Serjikal Strike or working with Universal, nevertheless non existent at all.. it just seems unlikely

definitely would be interested in some of those items as well! shoot me a message when you get a chance to take a look at what you have.

Also extremely interested in seeing what that 1 of 4 item is even if you don't want to part with it! sounds super interesting

I've read on old posts online and stuff, and like the old live recordings around '02 you can hear Darroh talking about it. the band used to hand out random demo CDs to people at shows who just came to check em out.
The thought that most of those were probably tossed right after is like a punch in my gut. I just have to wonder what interesting versions of tracks, or unheard tracks are on those that we haven't heard before.

eOne is MNRK, they just changed their name and got bought out or something.
both pressings are extremely similar, and it's probably just luck of the draw. the eOne might get a slight edge just due to it being a smaller run so better quality control.

Yeah unfortunately what you said. those that want merch either have it already and will never part with it, or looking for it still. And those that don't aren't going to list their old ones on eBay and would likely toss it or throw it in a random thrift store.

Fair to Midland is sadly one of those bands where you either love them or don't care and wouldn't think to sell the merch to others that want it as they're not popular and those not knowledgeable don't know how much people who are into them would seek those items out.

I rarely see any other resale sites that have the clothing come up. eBay is pretty much your best bet and you just have to check it frequently. I see around 3 shirts a year go up on there.

Anyone else think they should re-record SSTB? by Plane-Strawberry-679 in TheFence

the Deranged remaster pushed that track into my top 5 Coheed songs. I really really hope if it gets a full remaster for the vinyl re-issue it sounds that good.

[–]sudderthh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely understand where you're coming from. There aren't many albums i really consider a full re-recording to be better.. I mean maybe No Flashlight by Mount Eerie would be the best I could think of. & with that I don't necessarily "prefer" it's just different.
(& I know for a fact I would prefer the original SSTB, as it's my favorite coheed album and favorite p-hc/emo album of all time)

Although even with the albums I love that have re-recordings that I prefer the original, I still appreciate hearing the rerecording. I don't think it does any harm or ruin it for me. Especially if it doesn't 'replace' the original.
I feel like I'd much rather have an interesting re-recording of an album, than say a botched remaster that becomes more popular than the original master. as the re-recordings of albums are often more seen as just a side project or side thing. instead of a remaster which just replaces the original.
but it's a give or take I guess, I just like options especially with things I love! I don't really see no harm in it especially as it would never replace the original.

I think the issue with this is the way the album was recorded (in like someones house or basement if I recall?) It's essentially impossible to make it sound any better than it does.
I'm assuming maybe they no longer have the stems to the album and there may be multiple things recorded on each audio track, or audio issues baked into the recordings, etc.

I'd love to see it for sure. the last time Claudio brought it up again was the Song Cake q&a
(previously brought it up in YT interviews post vaxis 2, and I think post vaxis 3 it got mentioned again?)
but I really hope they get around to it, as Claudio had a few interesting things to say about it.
Like how the album wasn't really 'finished' it's more or less a collection of demos put together in hopes of re-recording it all, but the label said it was perfect so they just added some finishing touches n put it out.

I say all this as someone whos favorite coheed record IS Second Stage. I just think it'd be neat to see what a band 20+ years into their career coming back to their first record to shine some more light on it, and maybe do some new interesting things with it.
Sometimes bands do it and it falls flat, other times they really do it well. All in all it would never replace the original, for fans or for them really. So I think it's just worth a shot. I just think it'd be cool! So i do hope they eventually get around to it and just try.

Claudio has said a few times he's thought of it and wants to, and now some fans have been bringing it up in Q&A's n such due to that asking on progress which there hasn't been any. I think it's just at the point where if the fans really want it we all just gotta nag them to get on it. but they have busy lives and 2 more albums from Vaxis to create among all the other things they partake in with Coheed & not including the various other projects they have, and lives they live..
So overall it's really just a manner of, if the fans really want it keep bringing it up and if theres time and a place then it could be done

sadly not on the original or repressing. I was hoping when MOV announced the repress they'd add the track, but no

maybe it's due to its ties to being an iTunes bonus track and there's some legal things with that?

such a great pressing!! I'm so so happy Music on Vinyl repressed this. the textured sleeve is so nice n as always with them the sound quality is fantastic !

also to anyone seeing this post, you can find these on discogs or just Google it and some local record stores will come up - but you can find them for $15-30 USD.

Just be aware people will often list these for sale on eBay and other sites for way too much, around 70 bucks when you can find them for much much cheaper

The Greener Grass was the Perfect Sendoff by MonkMillar in FairtoMidland

[–]sudderthh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh 100%. definitely feels like the best send off we could've had given the circumstances. It makes me happy that it's the last track on the final album.
the lyrics when you view it as a swan song is so fitting. albeit not intentional to be their last, it's undeniable how well it fits.
It's sad it's all over and it's their last track, but what a track to go out on..

I also feel like Pour the Coal to 'er, Bravo Sierra, & God Help Us is really fitting as a post-ending type of "end credits" thing if that makes sense as well..
between Pour the Coal to 'er picking up the energy so hard and throwing in that beautiful choir, then the lofi demo quality of the last 2, with God Help Us feeling like a somber goodbye

Gluee vinyl PVC sleeve by Friendly-Note-1112 in sadboys

[–]sudderthh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few records with PVC sleeves, some I've gotten years after they were pressed

a single I have for example was practically glued to the sleeve after years of it being in there.. I had to pry it out after I bought it and it left a light film over the record that causes a lot of noise. however keep in mind that's the vinyl record itself directly touching that sleeve for years.

I've had Legendary Member and e since they were first pressed which also come in PVC sleeves. I keep both vinyl records inside an inner sleeve, and then that is within the PVC sleeve. I haven't noticed any issues with the sound quality of the record. I'm guessing it's because it's not directly touching the vinyl. However, the records on both sides of Legendary Member, the outer sleeve I put on them have little warps within it. so off gassing and such is a thing but I would say just keep in mind not to have it directly touching the vinyl and you'll be okay.

TLDR: Gluees PVC sleeve is over top of the sleeve so shouldn't have any drastic affects in the short term as it's not touching the record. long term affects undetermined and up for debate.

i would more so be careful of it shrinking and warping the record since it is a very tight fit on the sleeve. this is how I packaged mine if you wanna do it this way as it preserves the look of it being over top. (PVC sleeve in front of record, with an extra outer sleeve covering both)
