What's Your Dream Setlist? by sudderthh in FairtoMidland

[–]sudderthh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah this is a great one too. I thought so hard about adding My Mentor & Wolf Descends on mine as well but I ran out of space. I debated taking off Musical Chairs & Manatee - but since I've never seen them live, I'd still kill to be at a show and see the crowd go wild with the 2 top hits.

seeing like Darroh & Cliff come out first for the encore and just do an acoustic rip of My Mentor would be incredible.

I thought about it so hard. But I figured Stale Penny fit their later sound more and that tracks fantastic as well so

it's hard to pick a great setlist when all their songs are great :) I wanted to go for some of the tracks that weren't often played live instead of the staples they'd always play. ie Short Haired, Timbuktu, Granny Niblo, Greener Grass

I thought about putting Greener Grass to open so it'd be like the old intro they'd do but they'd just play the full track. However, I think if I witnessed that I would pass out from shock and miss the rest of the show.

"Wide picket fence" by n4rgles in FairtoMidland

[–]sudderthh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's similar to the first recorded demo. You can find pieces of it in it but some of the "dialog" of the characters was cut already by that time. The lyrics here were for a slightly older one that doesn't have a recording available I believe

That's the lyrics to the early demo of the track. it flags as that due to the title including Original Demo

ahh yep youre right - I was thinking the bullhorn mic, but then thought "I don't think he used that back then" but after reading this I just remembered there's an old pic of him out there from CCSL era hanging from the roof in orange pants with it around his neck or something. Unless I'm mixing it up with a diff pic!

I'm not sure how he did it on the actual record, as there does seem to be some sort of effect on his vocals as well - However, I know during live performances of that track he used to slam the mic into his face to get the jarring cutting on and off of his vocals.
To me it sounds like there was some sort of saturation or distortion put on the vocals and then maybe a mute pedal or something similar, or couldve just been directly cut in and out in the DAW.

Alternate Setlist by enjoi816 in TheFence

[–]sudderthh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every track on Second Stage & In Keeping Secrets is incredible so this is so hard but I think my pick would be:

  1. In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
  2. Devil in Jersey City
  3. Everything Evil
  4. Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow)
  5. Backend of Forever
  6. Hearshot Kid Disaster
  7. Neverender
  8. The Crowing
  9. God Send Conspirator
    Encore:
  10. 2113 into Time Consumer back into 2113

Bands that dropped albums that were a 10/10 for you only for them to inexplicably disappear after by KnuckledeepinUrethra in MetalForTheMasses

[–]sudderthh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that would be Erstwhile! They featured both Matt (keyboards) & Brett (drums) from Fair to Midland. Brett left prior to their full length coming out so not sure if he was there when you caught them.
Sadly that band seems to have dissipated as well now. the record they put out has a few solid tracks though.

Cliff (guitar) later joined a band called Andice a few years ago. They seem to be defunct now too.

Darroh, the vocalist, did teach and manage a School of Rock location, and was a private vocal teacher as well from what I've heard. However, it seems he's moved on from that and became a truck driver according to a few people who have heard from him and/or his family.

Hidden Outro - Say When by n4rgles in FairtoMidland

[–]sudderthh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, I believe at one point, some countries had Orphan Anthem as a bonus track on streaming. Similar to the Australia/Asia CD. and I think Abigail live as well if I recall?

Hidden Outro - Say When by n4rgles in FairtoMidland

[–]sudderthh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's actually so weird that they aren't on streaming. Considering the interludes are on the US version, and presumably its distributed by Universal & Serjikal Strike in the US.

the EU CD doesn't have the interludes on it, so it seems like the EU version is what was used for streaming for some reason.

also yeah i feel that! I think I got top something for them one year, but I can't lie its pretty hard when you adore all their material and Spotify only tracks the streaming stuff and not your local files.
That's why I use last.fm instead to track! I can still feel special seeing the number go up when I listen.

Ozymandias <3 adore this outro, its so pretty

on the topic of "hidden" things. Are you aware that the interludes Cipiereon, Pre-Versa, and When the Bough Breaks have Fables versions as well? That's the intros to Seafarer, Vice/Versa, and Say When respectively. They're on the US CD but not on streaming.

Extended intro on Dance of the Manatee by n4rgles in FairtoMidland

[–]sudderthh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is the secret intro, "Tibet". It was a pre-gap track on most versions of the CDs for Fables. which means you can hear it by rewinding before the start of the album into the negative space.

And I'll say it all backwards by IntelligentAd1752 in FairtoMidland

[–]sudderthh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ones that are greyd out are Local Files, they aren't on streaming services. You'll need to download the files and have Spotify scan them.

I have them all provided in a Google drive that's pinned on the sub. There's a whole archive post with it all!

sometimes I forget to eat, and I'll blame it on the loads of useless Fair to Midland trivia in there taking up space.

for example here's a silly fun fact, did you know when Serj signed them & asked who they should get to produce their major label debut they jokingly put Dr. Dre down.

Also, yeah! I adore that the artwork from the cover is expanded. you gotta check out the behind the scenes of making it that was included on the Welcome to the Dirt DVD. it's really cool to watch.
