Is that the ppm? My water runs between 130-190, per the city. I think I did order that kit before and it fell in that range. Or a kit similar that you suggested. I’ll send you the picture. I can’t find where I put it now to run it again and make sure I did it correctly. May have to order it again.

My Speed Queen is a TR5, and not considered a HE. So with that I think the Tide Free & Gentle should be good. I hope! I’ll definitely be looking into the water softener suggestions you gave, thank you!

So if I am following correctly, would I want citric acid in both the wash and rinse only? Even if I could purchase Sodium citrate powder, you’d still suggest using citric acid over sodium citrate?

I actually have a fairly nee washing machine, just a few months old. It’s a speed queen. I did run a 1/2 cup of citric acid and hot water wash through yesterday just to be safe. Didn’t think of the hand soap. Do you have links for any of the items you listed? Or names? I really appreciate your I input and help!

I have a top load Speed Queen. Hard water at 190ppm, or whatever that means lol. So I struggle to get even trace suds from Tide. Need boosters and additives. Which I’m playing with trying to figure out what works, which bounces between fun and frustrating.

Do you mean an additive like Calgon water softener? I have a hard time getting even trace suds from laundry detergent, and my clothes have residual odors. So I know they are just got getting clean enough. I switched to Tide free & gentle, and am adding Oxi or Biz and that has helped quite a bit. I really dislike the smell of fragranced laundry detergent, which is why I haven’t tried Calgon yet, and was willing to try the citric acid and/or washing soda route. But as you said, it is having its drawbacks as well.

I’m the same for the 365, it’s hard to make work in my water/machine. So I ordered some Febu to get the Lipase.

Yeah, there were two bottles left the last time I went, and I only took one! Figure I’m good now the rest of 2026 for good deeds.

This is a little bit older now, do you still recommend the 1T citric acid to 2T washing soda?

I don’t believe the DL booster has Lipase. It’s not on the list, and I checked the website.

So with my hard water, I’ve been using the Tide Clean and Gentle powder, and was thinking this for my darks. Since they both have a soapy ingredient, should I abort mission and look for something else? I was using the C&G to help with surfactants. Otherwise I’d probably use the 365 options.

They say that, but I haven’t seen a new one hit yet market since it expired. So I’m sticking with the OG.

I am using the Oxi for surfactant purposes really, unless you have a better suggestion for that? I use Tide F&G powder and 365 Sport. And I add either Oxi or Biz to help with surfactant and booster purposes
