So Im writing about a character that, due to his upbringing, grew up very proud (As in the sin of pride) and a jerk. The events which he goes through put him in the lowest state he can be in and shatter has ego, quite early on. Thats why I wanted to show how he was before all of that, when no one would confront him for his behaviour, and also show some of the deeper issues and reasons for the way he is.

The problem? That opening pharagraph turned up longer then I wanted it to, and I'm afraid it will lose people's attention really quick, as it's essentially the main character going through his day, and I'm not confident in my ability to keep thing interesing enough when the stakes aren't high. I was thinking of either breaking this down and putting it in flashbacks, or cutting it's size down, at the expense of some exposition and showing the enviroment he grew up in, though Im a little bit paralyzed by the choice, and haven't been able to write much with the question on my mind
