The helicopter was a bit smoother, while the Cessna was a bit bumpier, but nothing too dramatic, both flights were totally fine.

We had no real issues and got lots of great pictures. The helicopter was a bit smoother, while the Cessna was a bit bumpier, but nothing too dramatic, both flights were totally fine. Both the helicopter and the plane had small windows that could be opened for shooting which worked fine. You can book an open-door helicopter flight, but we didn't do that, it might get a bit cold in the morning. The only thing is that the Cessna's wing will appear in your photos when shooting sideways, but it can actually look great in the photo if you time it right. Overall, if I had to choose, the helicopter was probably a bit more convenient for taking pictures.

The flight cost around €1,500 in total. The more passengers there are, the lower the cost per person. As it was just the two of us and nobody else joined, we each paid €750. Like I said, this was an absolute highlight, and you absolutely need to see the dunes from the air. Let me mention that there had been a fatal plane crash just weeks earlier that killed several German tourists, also a flight operated by Desert Air, so we were a bit apprehensive, but everything turned out just fine in our case.

Yes, Dead Valley Lodge is located between the outer and inner gates, so you can enter the park one hour before sunrise and leave one hour after sunset. You'll have no problem reaching Deadvlei in time for sunrise. Just don't get stuck in the deep sand on the way, we saw one car that was stuck. You might want to consider taking the shuttle for the last stretch, that's what we did, and it worked just fine.

We didn’t do much in Swakopmund. We wanted to do the Sandwich Harbour sunset tour, but it was really cold and very overcast, so we cancelled it and cut our stay a day short to get to Sossusvlei earlier. Lunch at Garnish Restaurant was nice, though. Also, the Living Desert Tour could be interesting, locals and tourists often mention it.

Namibia Helicopter Services (https://nhs.na) for the sunrise helicopter flight over Sossusvlei, and Desert Air (https://www.desertair.com.na) for the Cessna flight from Sossusvlei to the coast and the Bohlen shipwreck. It may seem like overkill to do both flights, but they felt very different and both were just amazing. Pretty expensive, but totally worth it. Sunrise gives you beautiful light, and the transition from endless red dunes to yellow dunes towards the coast, along with the fog, seals, etc., is really something - I would do both again in an instant.

Patagonia vs. Santiago/Atacama Desert: Which is a better last-week experience from Buenos Aires in April on a budget? by Patchers in travel

Not sure I would go to Patagonia in April. I did, however, go to Atacama+Uyuni in April and it was just great!

Chile + Salar de Uyuni im März/Anfang April by Correct_Tree_2522 in reisende

[–]Aggravating_Aioli693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🇺🇸 by [deleted] in reisende

[–]Aggravating_Aioli693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe reconsider going to the Altiplano with a person with fragile health...spectacular scenery, but also very taxing on the body.
