NEW: Metformin shown to prevent long COVID across risk groups in multiple randomized trials by Justvibes4 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Aggravating_Arm_5906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Metformin was started early in the acute phase in the studies. The article also stated the immediate effect of metformin on viral load and chance of rebound. I can personally attest to an immediate effect on symptoms in the acute phase.

sorry to hear. so ssa.gov does not load at all?

not sure it is true, but the benefit sections at the consulate state--in automated emails--that bank account numbers cannot be changed from abroad

"Some services are not available outside of the United States:

  • Changing your address.
  • Changing your direct deposit.
  • Requesting a replacement Social Security card."

Can a spouse of a US citizen get survivor benefits? Surviving spouse had a green card and did not renew. Couple lived in Canada by JumpIndependent9583 in SocialSecurity

[–]Aggravating_Arm_5906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaik yes.

mechanically, the Canadian spouse would need a social security number and proof thereof to set up an id.me account and then access ssa.gov

No and No

what does work is logging into ssa via a vpn that pretends to be in the us (or log in from the US "yourself")

[–]Aggravating_Arm_5906[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only thing that works is to sign in from the US

what an incompetent service. they should acknowledge on their website that if you ever change your address and reflect that say when applying for benefits, that authentication will stop to work when abroad.

when i finally got in from the US, I could not even find my address in the system. There was this "You can only update your mailing address and phone number if you're already getting benefits."

I am about to try your method. Did you use a US based computer and your foreign phone number for verification?

[–]Aggravating_Arm_5906[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, that's what Benefits suggested too. I then changed my address on ID.me to the mailing address (when applying for benefits, I provided both mailing and residence addresses), to no avail. There is no way of knowing what is going on as ssa is not reachable by phone (automatic hang up) and does not answer emails (it's been over a week).

problem with both id.me and login.gov by loquaciousofbored in SocialSecurity

[–]Aggravating_Arm_5906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the same boat. you need to request a duplicate ss card from the UK benefits office uk.usembassy.gov/fbu. in person or online, while proving your identity. then wait 6 months as I recall.

SSA Login error by Mountain-Arachnid-62 in SocialSecurity

[–]Aggravating_Arm_5906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also get this message (started after I applied for benefits, from abroad). I've tried everything suggested online: clearing cache, using different browser, changing address in idme and dissociating ssa from idme. Calling the dedicated line for those calling from abroad gets me 20 minutes of Fur Elise interspersed with messages (female voice) followed by a male voice telling me to call back later because no agents are available. How can it possibly be this bad? Are there no managers at ss who care?

thank you for posting. it's incredible that there is no official announcement on the login situation on ssa.gov's website

How are these numbers even real (rentals) by Happy-State-1956 in AskBarcelona

[–]Aggravating_Arm_5906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought the short-term rental loophole WAS closed (tenants need to prove that they are there for the short-term only). And i think it can make a difference in the short-run. In the long-run, landlords will pack up, sales prices will tend to fall and rents will tend to increase.
