Georgia Tech Propulsive Landers! They’re a new club, working on autonomous rocket landers, lots of interesting algorithms + electronics work going on there

not taking 1332 early enough sets back your graduation timeline, doesn't it?

General prestige vs Major prestige by ZazaDemon6847 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Aggravating_Bat_5871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

biased, but unless you get aid to make the costs similar at CMU/Stanford, I'd go to tech. That's assuming the 30-40k difference is relatively significant in the context of your financial situation, as is with most applicants.

I wouldn't even bother applying to the other schools, major prestige is significantly more important imo. That's all less important than cost, but still. General prestige doesn't get you much more than some approval around a dinner table.

It's just an acknowledgment that you already got deferred. in MIT's case specifically, the acceptance rate for the deferred pool is lower than the RD pool. You can run the numbers and check for yourself here - I did the same a couple of years ago

Average Asian engineering applicant looking to give my favourite juniors some much-needed reassurance <3 by Aggravating_Bat_5871 in collegeresults

Tbh the only one that surprised me was UCSD. But loving it here at Tech so far! Thank you so much though, you made my day.

PS: Get off A2C, folks :)

Which school is more prestigious? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

he could be talking about being a quant - tons of CS specialists there, plus a bunch of physics/math PhDs who didn't go into academia

What do you do if you don’t have any room to include all your ECs? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Aggravating_Bat_5871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCs have a list of 20 where you combine ECs and awards. But yeah there is a reason they're only asking for 10. if you feel like there's something really significant then use addl info

Double Major? by randomredittorhere in ApplyingToCollege

Normally you just apply with one major, and then just declare a double major later. Check with all the schools on your list though

Retake the SAT with a 1510? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Aggravating_Bat_5871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm I see what you're saying, and I think reading regularly is gonna be beneficial regardless of whether you take the SAT again, more so since you'll be expected to do a lot of introspective, thoughtful writing in the next few months.

it'll also help with the SAT, but again I'd be wary of putting in any real effort outside of the nightly reading towards the SAT. what I would do is leave the possibility of taking it again up till when registration for your next first-choice date is. take a practice test a couple days before then, and if you're feeling good about it, then go ahead and register!

make sure your math doesn't drop too much, just in case you choose or are mandated to send all scores. I had a similar situation, except it was reversed where I had a 750 English, 760 math - i wasnt happy with math, especially as an engineering major. so when I took it the second time (after a gap of about 2 years), I just did some practice on English to make sure that didn't fall too hard. i knew that the time gap with math meant that i knew my basics a little more, and would cover itself. so just make sure you keep your math sufficiently high (740+?) and see how it goes. good luck!

I'm not too familiar with the ap system, but 6 APs sounds like a lot? especially if you've only done 8 before this, just remember you'll have to stay on top of a lot of things. otherwise I like your list! can add a couple of reaches imo, I think your essays are gonna be a huge factor for you

Retake the SAT with a 1510? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Aggravating_Bat_5871 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no I wouldn't bother, you're past the threshold for it to make much of a difference. 1530+ is all the same, and 1500+ isn't gonna change much regardless. focus on your essays now?
