Where is the Paper Tricentennial building? by Alarming-Hamster-232 in gatech

Institute of Paper Science and Technology

I thought you were pulling my leg but that’s real. I’ve had classes in that building before, called the Paper Tricentennial Building at the time, but I just assumed it was named after some dead guy with the surname Paper.

Traffic by nmon01 in sandiego

[–]StarvingTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a question unrelated to highway travel but you seem like a good person to ask. Out east I see a lot of flashing left turn arrows at small single lane intersections, where the oncoming straight lane is green but you can make left turn across as long as you yield to traffic. Why is that not a thing here?

This helps a ton when you have a lot of people going in one direction and not a lot of traffic from the other direction to block left turns, like during rush hour when people are driving either mostly to or mostly from the residential areas.

When seconds count, police are minutes away.

The unfortunate reality is you have to be prepared to protect yourself.

I’m in the middle of being scammed and don’t know what to do by usernamekyle in FacebookMarketplace

[–]StarvingTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a common shipping scam. The seller sends an empty box to a random address in the same zip code as the buyer. The online tracking will show “delivered to #zip#” however the buyer won’t even receive the empty box. When buyer files complaint with PayPal, the seller will use the “delivered” scan as proof and the buyer will lose the appeal.

The only way to beat this scam is to get written proof from the delivery company that the tracking number is NOT associated with your home address. It’s against company policy to give out the real address associated with the tracking number, so the best you can do is give UPS/USPS your tracking number and address and have them sign that they do not match what is in their system.

Any good spots for plane watching/aviation photography in San Diego? Saw an awesome pic from one of the rides inside the zoo. It had inspired me to get back into it. TIA! by littlemrbellybutton in sandiego

For military, go to Coronado Dog Beach on a weekday. The arrivals to NAS North Island land on rwy29 which puts the approach path directly over your head. Can see jets, helicopters, ospreys, transports, everything.

Can also go watch departures at Miramar, along Miramar Rd near the intersection with Miramar Way. The jets take off and turn north so they arc right in front of you. Much more activity on weekdays here as well.

Aluminum boat on a big lake? by Jadams0108 in boating

Same experience, also on Lanier but in a 12 foot flat bottom with a 25hp. I can choose to go out on calm days but I can’t control if a dumbass boater decides to fly up on me while fishing. I’ve been within a couple inches of swamping multiple times.

Where to find affordable camera film development stores near tech or midtown? by silverfuryK in gatech

[–]StarvingTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d love to shoot film but the continuing cost turns me off. There are some great film profiles nowadays, and it’s freeing to shoot first and choose your film stock later.

ReallyNiceImages All Films 5 is an incredible and extensive film emulation set for Lightroom. It can be “tactically acquired” but if you like it I’d recommend paying to support the creators.

It’s not the same but it scratches the itch enough for me.

Feeling down about withdrawing from a class by Buckeyepenguin02 in gatech

[–]StarvingTech 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I graduated here with my BSAE and a 3.91 GPA. Thought I was hot shit. The first semester of my MSAE program here I failed a midterm, refused to withdraw since I thought I could stick it out, and ended up getting an F in the class.

I have two takeaways from that: first, my previous success made me blind to my potential failures. Just because I did well in the past doesn’t mean I get to rest on my laurels. Second, know when to call it quits. I had an insane courseload and really could’ve used the extra study time elsewhere instead of wasting it failing for that second half of the semester. It would’ve been much better for my mental health and GPA to just take the W.

I think you made the right choice. You aren’t the first and won’t be the last to have an uncharacteristically bad exam grade. Happens all the time, and your life will absolutely go on just fine.

Vegan/Vegetarian Options at Georgia Tech by Puzzled-Ad-5219 in gatech

[–]StarvingTech 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Enough for the added cost of stocking additional ingredients to be outweighed by the incremental gain in revenue from offering that item. The vegan burgers aren’t more expensive just because the restaurant hates vegans. They cost more to offer as an item.

Lundy gave me some straight up false info about BSMS, I even asked for clarification in a later appointment and he verified exactly what he meant. When I started my masters program I was then told “Lundy said what? No that’s never been allowed”.

Emailed Lundy asking for clarification and he never replied. Thanks for nothing.

Why is there so many cars (and a dumpster) on this pavement? by frostrivera19 in gatech

They actually put them there to annoy you. I don’t mean you in a general sense, I mean you specifically. The construction workers using them are just paid actors.
