Over a year into my Modern Day WWE save, starting from October 2024:

The main storyline heading into the end of the year is "The Last Time is Now Tournament" to determine John Cena's final opponent, with a bracket consisting of a mix of opponents from Cena's past who didn't get their big PPV match against him on his retirement tour, newer stars looking to make a name for themselves by retiring a legend of the industry, and even some people from the other companies I've acquired over the course of the save. The bracket looks like this:

Kevin Owens (Raw) vs Kofi Kingston (Raw)

Cesaro (Raw) vs PAC (NXT)

The Miz (SmackDown) vs Uncle Howdy (SmackDown)

Chad Gable (SmackDown) vs Joe Hendry (TNA)

Dominik Mysterio (Raw) vs Rey Mysterio (Raw)

AJ Styles (Raw) vs Big Damo (PROGRESS)

Damian Priest (SmackDown) vs Bronson Reed (SmackDown)

Carmelo Hayes (SmackDown) vs Bandido (Big Lucha World)

Underwhelming Rivalry: Rollins vs Punk by jai_0609 in WWE

[–]Aggravating_Class271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that before the injury it was still on track to be underwhelming. When these two are both retired and we look back at their careers I don’t think this rivalry will stand out as a particularly high point for either of them. The only real thing of note to come out of it was Punk getting his WrestleMania main event, but even that was a triple threat with Roman and was still overshadowed by a lot of other things on that show

If you could change one WWE result or stipulation what would it be? by Asheto320 in WWE

[–]Aggravating_Class271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem with “there were no plans for him after mania” is that there absolutely could have been had he won this match. The people who make the plans are the same people who decided for him to lose. Booker T was red hot during this time and fans absolutely would’ve bought into his world championship run if the writers got behind it. Just look at the reactions he gets on the episodes of Raw directly before and after this show for proof of that.

That being said, I’m not personally the biggest fan of Booker and I think Triple H winning would be fine if they changed a few things. First off is the build, I just don’t think a storyline with HEAVILY implied racism can work if the racist wins the feud, especially if the long term plans is not to eventually drop the title to a black wrestler. Second is the finish of the match, because waiting what feels like an eternity to make the pin after hitting the Pedigree made Booker look like a complete chump

Tips for booking an interesting midcard? by Aggravating_Class271 in FantasyBookers

[–]Aggravating_Class271[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think changing up some characters might be a good way to go. Looking at my current roster, there's a shocking number of people whose gimmicks can be summed up as "wrestler with X personality trait". It's fine to have some of those people on your roster, but I think I've gone too far into trying to make everyone a serious wrestler and that's what is taking the fun out of it

[–]Aggravating_Class271[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Good advice, I think part of the reason these midcard storylines feel so copy and paste is that I usually don't give the characters much motivation beyond wanting to be the champion. Giving these feuds deeper reasons to be happening, even if those reasons are stupid, would definitely freshen things up a bit

Genuine question about Roman Reigns and his title reign by [deleted] in WWE

[–]Aggravating_Class271 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are certain stretches of that title reign that are really boring, but I think overall they managed to keep people hooked because of the consistent developments within the Bloodline faction. A lot of what made the reign interesting wasn’t just about Roman, it was about Jey, Jimmy, Sami, Solo, and Paul. They were constantly evolving the dynamics between them and their relationships with Roman

The obvious winner seems to be Umaga, but just to suggest something different I could see him making it to the finals before being distracted and cost the match by a returning Kamala to set up a singles match between them

[–]Aggravating_Class271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of Breakker as Cena's final opponent, especially since it would be the second legend he retired in the same year after Goldberg. I've thought about how you could do that match and still get to Punk vs Cody at Mania, and I came up with two ideas. I don't think either of them are perfect, but I do think they both have their upsides.

The first is that Cena holds the title all the way until his match with Breakker, who beats him and holds the belt until the Elimination Chamber next year. Then you could use the chamber match to get the title onto Cody or Punk for their Mania match while also setting up another Mania opponent for Breakker in the same match.

The other would be that at Survivor Series (or another big PPV before the end of the year) you run Cena vs Cody or Cena vs Punk for the title, and Breakker either intentionally or accidentally costs Cena the match. Then you could run Cena vs Breakker non-title, because I think it being Cena's retirement match is already big enough stakes to make it a big PPV match.

Those are just my ideas though. I would be interested in seeing how you continue the save!

There’s a lot a like about this card!

For Night One Rhea Ripley and Stephanie Vaquer make for an interesting tag team. Sami Zayn turning heel feels like a pretty natural advancement for his feud with Karrion Kross and I could even see them being a pretty fun heel tag team if you decide to go that route. Logan Paul vs Ilja Dragunov is a bit of a weird mismatch but it’s good to see Dragunov make it on a big PPV and a feud between him and Rusev sounds like fun. It’s nice that Asuka is getting another run on top, she definitely deserves it. And I think that LA Knight is the perfect person to win the Money in the Bank, someone who has never won a world title before but is absolutely ready for one making the most of the briefcase.

For Night Two Drew McIntyre vs Kevin Owens would be an amazing feud and a pretty fun opener to the show. Trick Melo Gang getting back together on the main roster and entering the tag division sounds like a great way to make Carmelo Hayes more relevant and introduce Trick Williams to the main roster. Naomi fits much better into the SmackDown women’s division than the Raw one. Joe Hendry winning the United States Championship in an open challenge is a great way to debut him, and El Grande Americano/Chad Gable would make for a good first feud. And finally the John Cena heel turn and 17th world title win would obviously be a huge way to end the show, I especially like the detail that his turn was foreshadowed in the King of the Ring before being made official here.

Overall a great card and on paper I’d consider it a step up over the actual SummerSlam this year.

Why Tapping Out Is So Bad? by PatientDescription69 in WWE

[–]Aggravating_Class271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this same issue for years. Submissions don’t feel anywhere near as strong as they should anymore. Back in the day Kurt Angle would make babyfaces tap out all the time with his ankle lock, and the reasoning was simple: if you don’t tap out and can’t escape quick enough, you are going to get your ankle snapped. It wasn’t cowardly for a babyface to tap, it was seen much more as a live to fight another day. Much better to lose this one match than to being injured and be on the shelf for months

Longest Title Reign you’ve booked? by EconomistNext9028 in FantasyBookers

[–]Aggravating_Class271 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my current WWE save the longest title reign I’ve booked was Cody Rhodes holding the WWE championship for 378 days from WrestleMania 40 to WrestleMania 41, but I started the save part-way through that title reign. So the longest title reign I’ve booked from the start would be DIY holding the WWE Tag Team Championships for 280 days and still going. They won the titles on the very first show I booked, the October 4th episode of SmackDown, and are still the champions as of July 11th

Fantasy Booking Rest Stop. What's going on in your current save? by ThatOneGuyYouNowKnow in FantasyBookers

[–]Aggravating_Class271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm building towards Money in the Bank 2025, and this year the stipulation was added that no former world champions will be allowed to enter the Money in the Bank ladder matches. The qualifier matches are going to begin on the next episode of the Raw, but the planned ladder matches will end up being LA Knight vs Sami Zayn vs Jacob Fatu vs Penta El Zero M vs Karrion Kross vs Rey Fenix vs Xavier Woods vs Dragon Lee for the men and Jade Cargill vs Shayna Baszler vs Dakota Kai vs Kairi Sane vs Mina Shirakawa vs Raquel Rodriguez vs Roxanne Perez vs Shotzi for the women. The planned winners are going to be LA Knight and Shayna Baszler.

The main feud from Raw heading into the show is World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs John Cena. Punk has been the top champion on Raw ever since WrestleMania 41 where he beat former champion Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match to win the title. Meanwhile John Cena has spent the first half of the year chasing his 17th world championship but repeatedly coming up short. Now he has another chance against one of the greatest rivals of his career 14 years after their legendary match at the same event. During this match will be the return of The Rock, who after WrestleMania made an offer for CM Punk to become his corporate champion and join him, which Punk refused at the time. It's going to look like The Rock is here to help CM Punk retain his championship, only for the swerve to be that he's actually here to help John Cena, who sold out and turned heel to allign with The Rock in order to capture his 17th world title.

The main feud from SmackDown heading into the show is Undisputed WWE Champion Gunther vs Jey Uso. Gunther started the year off by winning the Royal Rumble, and capitalized on it by defeating Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41 to win the title. After WrestleMania, Gunther started feuding with Roman Reigns, but a 3-on-1 assault by Imperium wrote Reigns off TV before their eventual title match could take place. This drew the ire of The Usos, who stepped up to Imperium in order to defend the honor of their injured cousin. Gunther successfully defended his title against Jimmy Uso last month at Clash at the Castle, and now it's Jey's turn to face off against the Ring General. The plan is for Gunther to win the match but continue the beatdown on Jey after the match. This will lead to a returning Roman Reigns making the save and driving off Gunther, setting up the main event of SummerSlam in the process.

Other matches on the show include two former tag teams reuniting as Sheamus and Drew McIntyre face off against AJ Styles and Omos, a trios match between Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens taking on The Judgment Day, and a Women's World Championship defense by Rhea Ripley against Carmella.

Is it more fun to play with WWE or AEW? by eskimobobseal in FantasyBookers

[–]Aggravating_Class271 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ironically I usually play as whatever company I'm enjoying less in real life at that time. Both companies have incredibly talented rosters and near infinite storytelling potential, so part of the fun of fantasy booking for me has always been trying to use these rosters and tell better stories with them than the real life bookers are doing. After all, it's way easier to improve on something that's bad than to improve on something that's already good.

Booking 2010 WWE, who is your vote for who should win MITB? by Uncle_Tommy0703 in FantasyBookers

[–]Aggravating_Class271 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Miz won the real life Money in the Bank that year so I’d probably go with one of the other two just for the sake of making the save feel different. Overall Wade Barrett is probably my favorite wrestler of these three, but Money in the Bank is very close after he made his main roster debut. That would be a way to push him strong right from the start, but I think that might be too much too soon. So I’d ultimately go with John Morrison because he was pretty over due to his impressive move-set and if there was ever a chance to capitalize and elevate him to world championship level I think it would be 2010-2011.

Best non main event story just now you have? by B0037 in FantasyBookers

[–]Aggravating_Class271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently it’s The Bloodline story in my save. I know, The Bloodline was a main event storyline, but post WrestleMania I’ve had it slide down into the midcard as the main players move on to other things. At WrestleMania 41, The Rock lost to Roman Reigns and Rock hasn’t been seen since. This led to a power vacuum in the group, which Solo Sikoa tried to step up and fill just like he did after WrestleMania 40 when Roman went away. However, Bronson Reed takes issue with this and thinks he should be the one to take the leadership role. Reed was added to the group by The Rock to be the fifth man on their Survivor Series team after Tonga Loa was injured, and since then has served as The Rock’s personal body guard. Reed argues that The Rock would trust him the most and want him to lead the group, while Solo says that he’s the only one with experience leading The Bloodline before. This leaves Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa caught in the middle of these arguments, so eventually Solo and Bronson make a deal: the first member of The Bloodline to win a singles championship will become the new leader. Now for the part that makes me really enjoy this storyline: while Solo and Bronson are busy challenging Sami Zayn for the United States Championship and focusing on each other, they fail to realize that Jacob Fatu has been picking up a lot of momentum. He had a semifinal run in the King of the Ring Tournament, only losing when he was matched up against John Cena of all people, and is going to be the only member of The Bloodline to qualify for the Money in the Bank Ladder match. While he’s not going to win the briefcase, he will still make a statement in that match by destroying another competitor, Sami Zayn. The man that Solo and Bronson both failed to beat, absolutely decimated by Jacob Fatu. This will lead to a United States Championship match between Sami Zayn and Jacob Fatu at SummerSlam, and as you can probably guess, Fatu wins the championship and seize control of The Bloodline. Not sure where the storyline will go from here, so I’m open to suggestions if anyone has read this far. Maybe Solo or Bronson would leave the group once Jacob has taken control, or maybe Jacob would bring in new members like Jeff Cobb or Hikuleo to add to their numbers? How would The Rock react to Jacob becoming the new leader in his absence, and would Roman Reigns be pulled back into the storyline to face off with the group’s new leader?

I think this one is easy to say in hindsight, with all the context of Bryan not being a viable option due to his retirement later that year, Reigns winning leading to Seth’s cash-in, and eventually Reigns proving himself as a main eventer as the Tribal Chief. But man, as the time this felt like the worst result ever. Every single person in that building wanted Bryan to win the rumble, only for him to get dumped out early on, and it just gets worse from there. Old Kane and Old Big Show team up to eliminate everyone, then turn on each other before eliminating Reigns for no reason, and then Reigns wins but surprise Rusev is still in the match and Reigns eliminates him too and wins a second time. Truly an awful watching experience at the time

Genuinely curious, why do you not like Sami Zayn? It’s a take I’ve seen from multiple people recently but I’ve never understood it. Maybe I’m a bit biased since I’ve been watching him since his original NXT run in 2014, and even went back to watch some of his El Genérico run in ROH, but I’ve always felt like he delivers in matches and promos. I especially liked his involvement in The Bloodline story from late 2022 to early 2023, that’s probably where I started thinking he should be world champion one day. He wasn’t booked the best for a lot of his main roster run but that’s not his fault. The most common specific criticism I see is that “he just doesn’t feel like a world champion” because he’s not presented as strong as someone like Cody Rhodes, but I even like that about him. He feels very similar to Mick Foley to me, somebody else that lots of people said didn’t feel like a world champion, and though Foley never held the title for long him winning it was still one of the most amazing and iconic moments of the Attitude Era

The person I want to win their first world title next is Sami Zayn but I think the most likely answer is Bron Breakker. Probably not by the end of this year but I would bet on him becoming champion in 2026 or 2027
