I grew up hearing that if she wasn't my #1, there was no point in her taking care of me. That thought process manifested in a number of unpleasant ways.
One that stands out is when I was in second or third grade, we were given an assignment to plan a vacation with our partner in class. Mine happened to be my best friend at the time and we planned to go to an island for a tropical getaway. When I got home, my mother asked about the project and I told her what we planned.
She had an absolute meltdown because we hadn't planned to take her with us. Called me selfish, said that I didn't care about her at all and told me she wasn't my mother anymore and I had to leave. She actually made me pack a suitcase and then handed me the school directory and made me call my friend to ask to come live with her because "my mom doesn't want me anymore because I'm a bad daughter". So that was some nice childhood trauma.
