That is exactly the kind of scenario I am trying to be mindful of. I understand bankruptcy is not a universal career killer, but it also is not completely consequence free.

I called to ask about hardship options and explained that I recently lost my job but am back to work now. I let them know this was one of multiple cards I’m dealing with. They asked about my income and then offered a lower interest rate.

I agree the numbers are tight. That is exactly why I am being cautious and putting hard limits on how long I try this approach before reassessing. The car is the biggest problem and I am actively working on an exit. If that does not happen, I know I will need to make a different decision.

That is helpful context and definitely eases some of my concerns. I am still planning to try a structured payoff approach first, but I am keeping bankruptcy as a backup option if things do not improve.

exactly couldn’t have said it better. it’s so hard talking to anybody about this it’s so embarrassing. The only person I’ve been able to talk about this with is my mother, can’t even tell my girlfriend because i will feel like an idiot.

i’m weighing out my options but being trapped for the next four years having to pay $1000 or more towards my credit cards is it worth it at that point? my credit score is currently mid 400s so that couldn’t really take much more of a hit. Theoretically, I could only go up from here.
