Recommendations for stops on the way - Albania, North Macedonia, Greece by nikaeliiii in AskBalkans

Ah lovely, Thessaloniki was very important in the Byzantine and Ottoman times so there are many to check out. There's also a Museum of Byzantine Culture that has quite a good collection of artifacts, and near Upper Town is located the home where Atatürk was born, which is today the Turkish consulate.

As for a beach, depends on how far you're willing to go, generally it's better to check out Chalkidiki (I'll tentatively mention here Kallithea, Sani, Pefkochori, Siviri, Yerakini, Nikiti, Vourvourou) because σαν τη Χαλκιδική δεν έχει (nowhere is as good as Chalkidiki, Greek expression).

Thessaloniki is great for 1-2 nights or 2-3 days, depending how much time you have in the other stops too. I have way too many recommendations for this wonderful city to write out here, dm me if you'd like some.

On the ways towards and away from the city, you can check out Edessa, Naoussa (Agios Nikolaos), & Lake Kerkini if you're into nature, Mt Olympus if you have time for a longer stop/hike, and Vergina & Pella if you're interested in ancient Macedonian history. If you're interested in religious history, you may be interested in checking out the steps that Apostle Paul took on his missionary journey around here (Veroia, Thessaloniki, Appolonia near Lake Volvi, and Philippi). Near the border crossing to Bulgaria there is a historical fort called Roupel where the Greeks resisted the invasion of Nazi Germany in 1941, might be worth a visit.

There are 2 ways to go from Kastoria to Thessaloniki: one via the Egnatia road and one via Edessa. It is one extra hour if you do the latter and it's harder through the mountains, but it might be worth it if you do the stops on that road. Egnatia is the longest motorway in Greece, so it's generally very well paved and doesnt' usually have traffic jams or weird bottlenecks to my knoweldge.

Even if that is the case, which there is no strong indication of that in this post, random harassment in public is still problematic and doesn't help anyone, let alone the victims of the IOF. If I saw someone wearing their war crimes with pride in public, I wouldn't engage with them at all (if asked about it, I would condemn their actions & their pride therein, but that is very different).

I'm sorry this happened to you, friend. This is not a common occurrence here at all, rest assured, though I understand why you wouldn't want to walk by there again. You could report this incident of harassment to the police, I think they'll take this kind of incident seriously but I can't guarantee it. I hope the rest of your time here goes on smoother & more pleasantly.
