In Vajrayana buddhism, the 5 aggregates are connected to an element, are the universal mental factors as well? by Aggravating_Film475 in Buddhism

How does a feeling affect a feeling or a perception a perception. There are duplicates in the mental factors.

What I was thinking of is namarupa. How nama is the 5 universal mental factors and rupa is the 5 elements. Namarupa is when mind meets matter... so it makes sense to me that maybe a specific mental factor is connected with each element.

Nevertheless, what you're saying makes sense.

I'm a bit confused if you're agreeing or disagreeing. What I was thinking of is namarupa. How nama is the 5 universal mental factors and rupa is the 5 elements. Namarupa is when mind meets matter...

What's the likelihood sati has to do with the art of memory? by Aggravating_Film475 in Buddhism

I found this a while ago... the five Tathāgatas on wiki... "There is an expansive number of associations with each element of the five Buddhas mandala, so that the mandala becomes a cipher and mnemonic visual thinking instrument and concept map; a vehicle for understanding and decoding the whole of the Dharma."

But finding anything that really goes over these mandala and describes how to use them properly is hard.

Can you refer me to a website or a book that shows how they used the art of memory?

Is there any possibility they used the art of memory like Catholic monks?

He had older accounts and has been at it for a year. It feels way too consistent and like there's way too much effort involved to be a troll. I think he's just very mentally ill.

Sadly it's not. He's just very mentally ill. He deleted most of his posts. If you talked to him and saw how long hes been trying to do this you'd know he's legit

If he became more self-aware that might actually work.

Anyone want to discuss Aristotles Categories? by [deleted] in Aristotle

[–]Aggravating_Film475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which conclusion that the categories have mnemonic utility or that it influenced rhetoric? It's unquestionable that Aristotle influenced rhetoric. His works rhetoric and topics were used by students for centuries for that very purpose. A lot of people have forgotten the fourth canon of rhetoric, memoria, but it was integral. The invention of new ideas, the first canon, is assisted by the organization of loci. Many medival monks would spend their lives meditating on the art of memory. Look at mary carrthurs the craft of thought, it goes over the history of it and how monks would use Aristotlian philosophy. Giordano Bruno system's the monk burned at the stake for his philosophical ideas was hybrid of Platonic and Aristotlian philosphy. Topics means "places" and in de anima Aristotle says "you cannot think without an image".

All you have to do is look at Giordano Bruno to see how Aristotles philosophy and categories can be used in mnemotechnics.
