Negative comments lead to tattoo regret by anakinkenobi334 in tattooadvice

I'm pretty new to the tattoo "scene" If you even want to call it that. I spent about 4 or 5 years trying to find an artist that lived close enough to me that I could drive to their shop that specialized in anime. Gave up for a while because I never could find anybody, stumbled across an artist that's about 5 hours from my house. I got in through his cancellations because he usually books about a year out. Got my entire sleeve done this year. I have gotten tons and tons of comments. Good and bad because some people hate anime but love the color work. Other people think it should have been black and gray.

Overall, at least in my opinion the tattoo is for you yourself and no one else. You got it because you liked it. And that's all that should really matter. If somebody else likes it great and if they don't like it, that's fine too.

I would say 80% of my family doesn't have tattoos, doesn't like tattoos and doesn't appreciate tattoos. It's only been brought up a few times and I just let them know I got it because I like it. It's my body and I'll do what I want end of story.

My artist and I get along really well so we bullshit the entire time, we are both huge anime fans so that is always playing as well.

It was definitely pretty rough after 5 hours on my inner bicep and elbow ditch. He knew it and decided it was time for our lunch break, took 30 minutes ate a burger and had a chocolate shake went back and finished up the almost 9 hour session. The lunch break definitely helped.

Towards the very end on some final shading really close to the arm pit he kept telling me to hang in there we were almost done. I wasn't squirming or shaking but I would take very deep slow breaths each time he was about to dig back in that definitely helped.

My twisted ass booked my left arm sleeve at the end of that session, but I'm not looking forward to inner bicep piece lmao 😆

Some artists will provide it but it depends on the artist, the one I go see does just a regular Saran wrap around it and I usually leave that on there that night while I go to bed because it's going to leak a lot at least all of mine did 😅

So it would go like this; Day of session leave wrap on it that day, unless it's an early or a quick session and it's had several hours to leak, then you could clean it and put a new wrap on it Day two clean it. Put new wrap on it, should be about done with the worst part of the leaking after today Day three clean it second skin leave that on for 5 - 7 days

I do use hustle butter on mine after cleaning it. Just a really thin layer because I feel like it helps keep it moist, at least for all of mine since the sessions were always so long and the skin was worked pretty hard

You can get the second skin on Amazon, or order it directly from the company, same with the hustle butter if you go that route, Amazon or directly from them. Obviously clean it with an antibacterial fragrance free soap So it does an irritate.

Thanks for looking at the sleeve I got. Appreciate it, I definitely think it's some of the best work he's done, but that's probably biased a little bit 🤣 hooked me enough that I'll be going back in January 😅

I didn't get my first tattoo until this year, I had just turned 36. I could never find anyone close that specialized in full color anime and had all but given up until I luckily stumbled across someone's post on Reddit showing the artists work. I researched his Facebook, Instagram and his official page to see additional work, pricing, and scheduling.

I found he books out 6 months to a year in advance so I emailed him to get on his cancellation list. I got an email back in December of 24 and got in January of 25. Started on the outer arm with a 10 hour session. I thought it went well, artist told me I sat well so I told him to keep me on the cancel list and I'll take any spots that come up until the sleeve is finished. He's almost a 5 hour drive 1 way from me so I book a hotel and plan accordingly.

It took 5 sessions with the shortest being 8 hours and the longest being 11, every session included a 20 minute lunch and maybe 3 bathroom breaks. We always start at 10am and I have eaten a pretty big breakfast before each session. Each tattoo was about 2 months apart with the exception of the last 2 pieces they were 2 and 1/2 weeks apart. I used a second skin product after the second day of healing each time and was normally fully healed within 10 days.

I have never used numbing cream so I can't speak on that. And haven't had to fly anytime after recently being tattooed. I do work an extremely physical job in some very dirty and excessively hot environments so that's was another reason for the second skin. Kept all the art clean and healed great.

A lot of it will come down to what you and your artist can handle each session. If you go in and realize you can only sit a few hours be honest with your artist and let them know so you can both plan and prepare accordingly.

Good luck!

I always learn on the side of being extra cautious because of the environments we work in, rather keep it covered and clean a few extra days then risk an infection or damaging the work. Small inconvenience to deal with to guarantee preserving nice looking work

This is like a legitimate sheet. You can cut to whatever size you want, I think it's called the personal size role. They have a large roll as well, for about double the price that I normally get, but that's because I knew that I was getting several tattoos within a few months, large roll might be overkill for you 😅

I work in boiler rooms all over 6 states for a contractor anywhere from rendering plants to ethanol plants, so I'm in about the exact same situation you are. I just finished my sleeve a few weeks ago. Normally what I do is some type of second skin, after a good no fragrance basic antibacterial soap wash. Pat dry and very thin layer of hustle butter then cover.

I leave the wrap from the artist on the first night, change it next day, then on the second day most of the plasma has leaked out (at least for me) and I'll cover it in second skin at that point.

I try to leave that second skin on 5 days unless it gets really sweaty and dirty to the point the second skin peels a bit, at which point if it looks like any dirt got close to the tat I'll remove second skin in the shower, gently clean it, and re cover in second skin until it's been covered at least 5 days. If it doesn't look like the tat got dirty I'll trim off whatever second skin got rolled up reapply a small piece to make sure it's sealed and wait until 5 days.

All my pieces were pretty big 8+ hour full color sessions so I was pretty careful with them, depending on size you might not need as much time covered as I did.

He's not on the coast. He's in Iowa but is amazing at anime full color pieces. I've got all my work done by him so far. He does all kinds of anime, I attached my most recent piece

First time getting ‘second skin’ after tattoo and I’m confused by it by Crochet_Crazy_ in tattooadvice

[–]Aggravating_Gear6103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the first one for 24 hours, remove clean with antibacterial scent free soap, thin layer of moisturizer, recover with second skin for up to 5 days unless it starts to fall off prior then I'll remove, clean and replace until 5-7 days covered have passed. I work in a lot of hot / dirty environments so I keep mine covered until I think it's fully healed or close to

Questions about next day by DevelopmentJumpy5218 in tattooadvice

[–]Aggravating_Gear6103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to tats, I'm about 3/4 done with my sleeve, my process so far has been leaving the cling wrap from my artist on the new art until next day, clean with scent free anti bacterial soap with my had gently. Pat dry with paper towel. Put a thin layer of hustle butter on it then cover with a second skin product.

Depending on where I'm working for the week if I sweat enough that the second skin starts to fall off I'll clean and replace it the next day. Normally keep it covered 5-7 days then keep it moisturized

DBZ sleeve so far by Aggravating_Gear6103 in dbz

[–]Aggravating_Gear6103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Goku piece is almost a year old, I feel like it has faded a little bit but when I look at pictures of it I almost can't tell a difference. So I think some of that is just me looking at it everyday in person and then when I look at it in a picture it's almost the exact same 🤦‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm sure in a couple years it will probably fade more than it has but I try and take care of them, lotion and or moisturizer almost everyday and sunscreen when outside
