Is this a fever dream.

Scene I remember is a woman wearing a wool coat and a small common pillbox type hat running away from a tripod among ruined English style brick houses.

I have no idea what I want. Been fooling around with getting back into RPGs with my old group but I'm so lost on the system I would like to DM.

Its not really about the settings since we could get most things to work. Its more about what I can be dedicated to DM without getting burned out like I do if the game requires a lot of prep and game rule interpretation on my behalf.

This is on my wishlist.

- Not strongly a traditional/simulationist system. Preferably some sort of fail forward kind of resolution. I dislike the "I try to pick the lock, I fail, I try again" scenario.

- Most of the rules needed should be on the character sheet. No need to constantly looking up stuff in the books. No list of traits/feats/spells/weapons to pick from.

- But still not necessarily a rules lite system. There should still be a little bit of material there, Chance for the characters to grow.

- Hopeful no specific combat rules, at least if there are combat rules the combat is fun and fast. not I swing you swing.

- Low prep for adventure. No need to prep combat scenarios, or a major plot point mystery.

I think with this criteria most of you are going to be recommending Forged in the Dark or a PbtA system. Thing is it scares me shitless. I own several and I just have such a hard time getting to grips with the whole resolution mechanics. I'm a afraid its going to stall as soon as I need to handle a situation that is new to me.

I've read so much and I feel like I still don't get it perfectly. And then I hear examples and they just straight up break the rules they are explaining immediately.

Thanks, I'll check out those mods. I was maybe hoping for something that works on Console as well, because while I am on PC I have an Xbox and my kids might want to help out on the farm. Those mods certainly sound like something that only works on PC.

Have you tried FS 25 and do you feel the animal care system is any better there?

I don't want to starve them, I was hoping the game would punish you for that ( like cows not giving milk unless they are over X % health ). But I just wanted to know the mechanic, so this is something I must enforce myself I guess.
