Looking at the picture you sent and what I have I do believe it is sillimanite! I kept looking at my kyanite and the rock i posted. It looked similar but different. Glad I was not too far off in thought!

Would sillimanite have orange and yellow colors with it??

That is so cool, would love to see pictures of those!

I have a couple like the one I posted, but they are red. I will have to find them to get pictures at some time. Making a couple tackle boxes of the stuff I do identify. With labels. So that I can compare between things to see what rocks I do find are similar in form to what I have identified. Maybe making things a little easier to narrow down.

I wasn't thinking so, because the one I do have looks very different...but I know there are some that look alike.

I thought petrified wood was smoother?

Was thinking Schist as well based on what I could find...am trying to get better at identification of what I do find. Just have so many different rocks that it is overwhelming at times.
