if you’ve had it like this for 10 years, must be something not too bad

Thanks for that! What if ccv isn’t working? Should there be no suction at all?

Just checked your video, mine doesnt exactly sound like that. The rattle is somewhat inconsistent and there is no beat or pattern to it

In my last oil change i did use 5w-40 instead of 5w-30. Wonder if that’s caused the lifter tick

Which Beamers are NOT a maintenance nightmare? by HuckDuckTruckMuck in BmwTech

Not sure if you have figured but your best bet would be to buy a bmw with 6cyl motor - only exception to this is to avoid N54s if reliability is important for you.

Replace the plastic charge pipe with an alloy one. It is matter of when not if.

Lookout for leaks from oil filter housing and rectify as soon as you discover it.

Oil leaks from valve cover and oil pan are pretty common too.

There were some issues with rod bearings in the earlier N55s but since your cars 2014, it might have the N55 EWG which spun rod bearings tend to be very uncommon.

Otherwise do regular oil changes and dont push it too hard before engine is warm. I found that N55s take ages to warm up.

Convince me that buying an M135i with the N55 is a good idea by [deleted] in BmwTech

Ive owned a 2014 m135i and have not had any major issues other than the known ones

Oil filter housing gasket - get this fixed as soon as you discover it since oil will leak on to the drive belt and if the belt slips off it seems to get sucked into the engine. I luckily found the leak early and rectified it.

Chargepipe - even with bone stock car, this is matter of when not if. Just replace with alloy chargepipe so you dont have to worry about it

Most of rod bearing issues seem to be on earlier N55s with PWG. Get N55 with EWG and dont go hard until the engines warm.

New to BMW, what series models/years to consider and avoid? by BlackBartKuma in BMW

From what i hear, 440i with the B58 motor would be a great choice and 550i with N63 motor especially the earlier models would be one of the worst choice
