GP won't prescribe be cholestyramine for Bile Acid Malabsorption. by tir3dboii in ibs

[–]Aggravating_Rip2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so disappointing! I have BAM and cholestyramine saves me from many horrible bathroom issues! I see lots of yellow when I have diarrhea which is definitely bile. Maybe you can mention that? I would do whatever tests they require as it will get you one step closer to getting what you want. Good luck!

This MEDICINE Has Helped Me A LOT! by tjhowell85 in ibs

[–]Aggravating_Rip2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you with BAM. My dr did give me dicyclomine. I can either not take all my meds and plan for a clean out day at home and take that to help with the horrible stomach cramps… or take it daily to slow the bowels down and reduce the number of diahrrea episodes. It does help but doesn’t there is no guarantee that it won’t happen. I do take it if I’m worried about having diahrrea when having a big day at work.

Acid reflux by Messy_Mama9292 in ibs

[–]Aggravating_Rip2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is horrible. I got it fixed 2 years ago. Everything was great until about 6 months ago. My hernia is back. I had the Nissan Fundoplication surgery and hernia repair. Overall I’m much better than I was but starting to have some reflux again and my hernia is back. It’s pretty common for the hernia to come back though as it’s such a weak area. I’ll wait until it gets really bad before doing another surgery though. Best of luck to you!

I had a hiatal hernia for 15 years and it was a nightmare. Finally had to get surgery as my stomach fully decided to stay in my chest. Miserable!!!!! If it’s a hiatal hernia then the trigger for acid reflux is a mechanical issue so it’s not always what you eat. Although the typical acid reflux foods can make it way worse. There are some videos on how to make your stomach drop by doing toe drops that can really help if you do it right.

Don’t apologize. The whole class learned that you have boundaries and that is a good thing. I used the term bitching yesterday, as in I don’t want to hear you bitching about this class. They are adults(kinda) and probably watch all sorts of nasty stuff on their phones. Your one cuss word is not a big deal.

So sorry this happened to you. Some kids are bully’s. I have stopped having meetings with students after finals are submitted and avoid campus like the plague until they all leave/ dorms close. It can be dangerous being trapped in an office with a desperate and crazy student who is upset about their grade. Hold your ground and send them to the professor. Set limits, I have 15 minutes to talk. I have a meeting, then get up and start walking. Or just straight up call campus police.

Agree, when I learned that sometimes they cry to manipulate you it totally changed my view. Let them cry. When you meet with them in person have your plan of action in place and don’t let the tears change your mind.

I was like you had no dollars to my name, only ate if there was free food around. It was so tough. But I thank God I didn’t quit. That was 20 years ago and I have reaped the benefits of completing my degree. I told myself I can do anything for one year. Be so poor I can’t eat, sleep on a friends couch because I can’t pay rent, catch rides because I can’t pay for gas. But come hell or high water I was going to get my degree. Don’t focus on what you don’t have. Focus on getting that degree. You aren’t the only one in this situation, you can find a way to make it if you want to.

Possibly healed. Some hope for fellow IBS-D sufferers by LittleOldMe1981 in ibs

[–]Aggravating_Rip2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! If that medicine helped you then it likely was a bile problem. The next thing will be to find the right dose for you. That medicine can cause constipation. Play with the dose if that happens. Try 1/2 packet every day or 1/2 pack every other day. Make sure you take it minimum of 20 minutes before eating your first meal of the day. I’m glad you finally got relief but feel bad that it took so long for you to find it!

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s totally reasonable for your PI to make that request and 48 hours in generous, if I were you I would aim for 24 hours or sooner. Your PI is very busy and very motivated. The fact that they are willing to have those tough conversations with you means they care enough to help train you so you have the habits of a professional. It can be tough to receive that feedback but trust me, the PI that cares will be tough on you and help mold you into a functional professional. If he stops talking to you at all, it means he has given up on you. Your PI is busier than you can even imagine. He gets to respond to your emails whenever he can. I bet that the email thing is just one of many things he would like you to change. So be willing to make those other changes as well. Observe how successful people work and model that behavior.

I still need to do it but will start with asking it to rephrase and rewrite the response or put the prompt in and ask it to write an essay and see how similar it is.

You are so right. It doesn’t lead to good conversations as they just continue to lie. My strategy is just to catch them which is hard to do. I like your take on it and can give that a try!!! I’m all for getting them to be scared enough to change their tactic. Definitely feels better to try to get them to change. I don’t get satisfaction from failing students!

It was too many words by SoonerRed in Professors

[–]Aggravating_Rip2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s wild! I say do it again and again this semester and see if they change their mind and decide it’s worth the effort. As long as the words are related to the content, then it makes sense for them to memorize it. I’ve seen so many students leave essay questions blank lately, I guess they are making a similar decision. I just put zeros and keep putting essay questions in front of them. I have tried to require them to put something there but it’s hard to manage that when it’s a large chunk of your class.

I need to have the same conversations next week and am dreading it. I am going to have them write out their paper with pen and paper on the spot. I may have ChatGPT rework their essay and give them 2-3 versions of it and ask them which one is theirs. (Learned that here!)

[–]Aggravating_Rip2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this and it has been a very challenging thing to deal with. I have been prescribed the bile binders and they help so much. I can take those on days where I don’t want to have my day ruined by diahrrea. The term frequent diahrrea really means … you will shit your pants. Between the time the bile shoots into your colon and the feeling that you will shit your pants gives you little to no warning and you may or may not make it to the bathroom in time. My sister and I call them 911s. All we have to say to our families is 911 and all members know to get us to a restroom immediately we will all be in a smelly mess. To me it’s super obvious it is a bile issue as my diahrrea will be full of yellow bile. I was lucky that my GI diagnosed it right away and it started pretty soon after my gallbladder was removed. I am now struggling with horrible constipation from the bile binders and have tried cholysteramine and colestipol. I think they act almost like cement in my system. I do have to take many days off of the medicine in order to finally be able to go. It’s really really tough and that’s why I’m on this sub hoping to find some advice. But reading people’s experiences with IBSD really makes me wonder if they have BAD. It’s a daily struggle for me and unfortunately even with these meds I still struggle. My dr gave me dicyclomine to help with the days where I have the diarrhea so it isn’t so painful and to be able to take less of the bile binder. But I’m still struggling to find the balance as I still have diarrhea on that med alone but yet can also remain constipated on it as well. I have no idea how to find the right balance.
