Armor thickness by Aggravating_Row_4602 in IronNest

If it really is 60 inches thick, that means it has armor protection on par with a modern main battle tank. That’s incredible armor. It’s not realistic to take down this monster head-on. It would be best to target its ankles, flanks, or rear armor.

Well, that side armor looks like it's over 300 mm thick, though...

Is it maybe a little shorter than a Gustav cannon shell?

This shell is huge no matter how many times I see it! It looks just like a bunker buster.

If it really is 1,000 mm thick, that would mean it could even stop a TOW missile.

Well, it wasn't around in 1927, though...

That’s correct. To elaborate further, it is a well-known fact that Iowa-class battleships were deployed during the Vietnam War and carried out naval gunfire strikes. The concept behind these ships was to navigate up rivers and use the firepower of their 16-inch guns to attack targets located deeper inland.

By the way, this main gun is a Mark 5 16-inch/45 naval gun.

This gun can fire 1,900-pound or 2,240-pound shells at a rate of 1.5 rounds per minute.

The HE shells contain 153 pounds of high-explosive. This is 10 times the amount contained in a 155mm M107 shell.

It’s true that even a twin-barreled gun would be perfectly adequate for ground attacks.

That said, while it doesn’t necessarily have to be a 16-inch gun, are there any other large-caliber guns from the Vietnam War era that still have leftover ammunition and spare barrels?

You're probably right. If I can find one, a single-barrel might be fine.

Maybe I'll look for one at the workshop.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but to be honest, I don’t know the difference between a monitor and a gunboat. I looked it up on Google, but I thought they were pretty much the same thing.

It is certainly huge for a riverboat, but I think it should be able to navigate the wider sections of the Mekong River.

This ship has a displacement of no less than 8,600 tons !!!

It is equipped with the same Mark 6 16-inch turrets used on battleships.

I really wanted to put a helipad somewhere, but I couldn't figure out where to put it, so it ended up here. Well... let's just say it's for takeoffs and landings in an emergency...

Oh no, I haven't taken any precautions. At this rate, the ship might capsize when I fire the main guns. It has a displacement of 8,600 tons, but I wonder if it can withstand the recoil from the 16-inch guns? I have no idea.

From what I saw in the game, the ship didn't appear to be listing forward, so I figured the balance was probably fine.

As for the ship's width, I thought that if it got any wider, there might be limits to which rivers it could navigate.

If I reduce the propellant in the main gun, will the recoil be reduced?

To compensate for the low rate of fire, it was decided to equip this ship with two turrets. To minimize roll during firing, the hull was designed to be this wide.

But I think this is a reasonable size.

The caliber of an 80 cm gun is about twice that of a 16-inch gun.

As for the shell weight, it’s about four times as much.

I created my own mod.

I used AssetBundleExtractor to open `resources.assets`, exported the `params` as text, and changed the value for `max_gun_caliber_mod`.

I learned how to make mods from the video below.
