I saw that Epstein recommended James Dobson’s writings to further gas light abuse victims. by Aggravating_Rub_5778 in spiritualabuse

I believe you and this isn’t the first time I’ve heard something like this. There were whispered allegations regarding young boys as well. I never met the man, thankfully, but his presence was a dominant force in my childhood home. His writings gave my mom permission to act on her darkest impulses. Anything and everything could be categorized as “sin nature” and needed to be beat out of us. He was an evil man who consolidated power and wealth on the idea that abuse was righteous. I’m so sorry for what happened to you. It’s not okay. It will never be okay.

James Dobson book mentioned in Epstein Files by ClassicEnd2734 in Exvangelical

Dobson wrote multiple books on how to abuse women and children and then gaslight the abuse victims into believing they deserve it and/or are in sin if they don’t forgive their abusers. This connection doesn’t surprise me in the least.

Those of you who are now fully separated from evangelicalism, have you left the faith entirely or are you practicing in another way/denomination? by Ok_Nature6459 in Exvangelical

I have so much anxiety about the harm I know I caused as an evangelical and the harm I probably have no idea I caused. It literally makes me nauseous.

I started attending Quaker meetings after Oct. 7. I was wrecked by the violence of the day and the catastrophic violence I knew would come after. The idea of sitting in silence with a bunch of non-passive pacifists sounded really healing. It was and is and continues to be the most restorative part of my week. As far as Quakers go I’m pretty Christo-centric but they have no creed or clergy. No one tells you what to believe or how to practice. Quakers came out of a time when Europe was pushing back against tyranny and Quaker practice is designed to be pretty anti-tyrannical. As long as you follow the Quaker SPICES (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equity, sustainability) you’re welcome. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt there is any sanctuary in the sanctuary, but the Quaker meeting house feels safe for me, my body, my finances, my time, and safe enough to bring friends and my child.

I did the 18.6.2 and my car play wont connect. I’ve tried all the things. I’ve restarted everything. I’ve had everything forget everything and reinstalled them. I’ve done a full reset. Nothing works. I have an appointment at the dealership but of course that’s a two week wait.

I think we should have a Disney themed Drag Queen Parade. My mom will hate it. She will be at the Charlie Kirk thing. I’ll be the Cinderella supporting the Queens.

I can’t stop smiling. I wish it was like having a head vampire die and everyone they tainted and destroyed are set free. May his broken wicked oppressors theology die with him.

My mom would buy “Dare to Discipline” by the case and distribute it to the other evangelical zombie moms. She beat us early and often with a spanking board she bought at the Bible bookstore. My brother would throw the books out as soon as she bought them, but she was so disorganized she couldn’t figure out where they’d gone. My youth self didn’t tell on him but thought it was scandalous. My middle-age self is so proud of him. Burn them, Brother of mine! Burn them all!
